Hi to all my regular customers and my new ones! I am (was) an avid G3 collector. I love them all so much and think they are beautiful. Due to some recent hard times, I have been forced to sell offmy personal collection of G3s. I am still trying to downsize. Before I send them out to those of you whom purchase them, I stick them in what I call the "Pony Salon." I did not make that name up, I think it just generated and all us collector's have dubbed the name....lol.
The Pony Salon, is when you bathe them, condition them, and style their hair. I do the most basic hair styling simply because I have never been able to master (or find the patience) to do the tight curls. I know how to, but dang it's hard and frustrating. I will go over that proceedure for those of you who are brave!!!
The 1st thing you do when you get a used MLP or have one that needs treatment (for the record ALL G3 MLPs you buy from me that are used, go through this process BEFORE you receive them!):
1. Run HOT water in your sink and stop it up. Pour some ANTIBACTERIAL, liquid dish soap in the water. Make sure you pour in the soap while the water is running so it creates bubbles. The bubbles act as a safe scouring pad. (I swear it's true! I'm not lying!!!!) Put in maybe 5 MLPs to start with; as you do this more often, you can go through 10-15 at a time. If you have severe markings on the MLPs, let them sit for about 5-6 minutes in the soapy water.
2. Get a sponge that has a scouring pad on one side. Try using yellow ones, as sometimes, if you scrub TOO HARD, the color of the sponge will transfer to your pony! For those MLPs that have ink or marker markings, it will NOT come off. UNLESS, it is fresh and just a surface mark (except for marker). Markers bleed, so don't waste time or energy trying to get those out. AND, it is a LIE about the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers....They do not do very well on the MLPs. If something has all ready bled through the plastic, it's there for good! Anyhow, take your sponge and lightly scrub the entire body of the MLP. Wash her hair in the soapy water as well. Once done, set to other side of basin and repeat with the rest of your MLPs in the water.
3. When done, rinse under luke warm water. You are now going to condition their hair. I use Tresseme conditioner, and when selling a high dollar pony, I use Biolage conditioner and also put Paul Mitchell's Skinny Serum on afterwards. But, Tresseme is no cheap off brand either. I squeeze enough in my hand to do 7 MLPs hair. I take their mane and skim it along the palm that holds the conditioner. I do this until I have done all the MLPs. Then, I go back and grab the mane and tail together, and rub in the conditioner. Do this until you have done ALL the MLPs hair. I typically let them sit for about 20 minutes if I have the time. Sometimes I have so many to do, I rinse righgt away. TRUST me, letting them sit in conditioner is no harm....lol. Let them sit for 20 minutes, then come back with a brush (an oversized MLP, brush works best), and start brushing the mane and tails until tangle free. YES, do this while the conditioner is in their hair. It makes the tangles come out smoother.
ALSO, if you have a MLP with FRIZZY hair, there is NO WAY TO FIX IT! Once frizzed, it's done for. This is synthetic hair so remember that. You CANNOT apply heat (i.e. hot curlers, flat iron, curling iron, or blow dryer) to their hair. It will melt and when cools, becomes even more frizzed out! (I know, I tried all this before I became a official collector. Yeah, ruined a couple good ones that way....hee hee hee)
While letting your pony's sit in the conditioner, take a handful of paper towls and cut them into 2 inch strips. Okay, you don't have to bust out the measuring tape or your child's ruler....Just eyeball it give or take some adjustments. You will need these for the last step. Do u have a spray bottle? If not, it's okay. If you do, get it!!
4. Rinse out the conditioner. By this time, the conditioner has dried somewhat to the body, so make sure you rub the body down real good to get it all off. Rinse them off in warm water. The warmness helps the conditioner slide off and it acts like a heat activator to the synthetic hair. Once that is done, tip the pony upside down, tilting her towrds her rear end. Now, SQUEEZE!!!! Keep squeezing, a little more....Is all the water dripping out of the tail base yet? If so, GOOD!! This is how you get the excess water out of their bodies. Do that to all your MLPs.
5. Finally, after bending over the sink for about 30 minutes and making your back creak and VERY soar....OH WAIT!! I guess we could have pulled up a chair to the sink...DUH! Remember that next time!!!! Now, take your pony and wring excess water out of mane and tail. Take the mane and brush it smooth, then wrap it around her neck in the SAME direction as she is facing. (If your MLP faces forward like Seaspray, Guava Lava, Sunny Daze, just to name a few, wrap her mane in the direction of what side her symbol is on). Once you have done this, take a strip of paper towl and wrap it around the hair. Take your spray bottle and mist the paper towl around the mane. Smoothe it with your fingers untl it sticks by itself. Do the sam with the tail. Wrap it around the front back leg, put a paper towel around it, spray it, and set her aside. Repeat this process with the rest of the MLPs. This takes a while until you get used to it, then you can do 10-15 MLPs in 20 minutes flat!
6. Now, you wait for 48 hours. Let them sit AS IS for 48 hours. The paper towl will dry and look nasty, but it's fine!!! I let them sit for 48 hours in case all the excess water was not squeezed out.
7. After 48 hours, unwrap the mummies, I mean pony's.....lol. Unwrap their hair from their neck and leg. VOILA!!!! You have your basic curl done! Did I forget to mention, that you can use rag curlers and do this too? LOL! Nah, rag curlers give them short, roll under curls. I think it is tacky. But, pat yourself on the back! You completed Monica's Class on MLP styling 101!!! Next lesson, those nasty, frustrating, cursed, but GORGEOUS, tight curls!!!
Please message me and let me know if this was helpful or not!!! Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day! Don't forget to print this off....
