Search for lots in whatever catagory strikes your interest. Most people are looking for one particular item, and do not wish to pay shipping to ship an entire lot with items they do not want or need. These auctions may receive fewer bids due to this. I have been able to buy lots of toys and childrens clothing and break them up into smaller lots or sell as individual items if their are some good name brands in the lot.
Often I sell one item for the price I paid for the whole lot with shipping. I have even re-sold the lot exactly how I bought it, only with better photos and a more detailed description. I have also found by testing battery operated toys and being able to confirm they work raises your selling price as well. It may be a little time consuming, but if it makes you more money your time is well spent. You do not have to leave the batteries in the toy...I have a shoebox of my "Tester" batteries which I use soley for testing eBay items.
Another thing I have done is buying items on eBay that sell locally for more than on eBay. With glassware, and depression glass I have bought lots on eBay and sold them locally in yard sales on in the newspaper classifieds and profited after the first item from the lot sold.
The key to success is research research research. You have to look at what items are selling on eBay, and it helps to find out the original retail too. I find Google to be an excellent search engine for researching retired childrens items and also finding out what the actual name of toys are. If someone is searching for a Bee-Bop buildin' Travelin' tractor and you have listed it as a "Tractor" because you did not know what it was your auction may receive less visits. Know what you are selling, and think about how one would search for your items.
If you just canot locate the otem online and have to sell it blindly take lots of photos! It never hurts to include a statement in the auction such as "I do not know anything about this item, if anyone has any info please feel free to email me". You will be suprised, I have had people email me with very helpful information that enabled me to either update my listing or re-list an item with more favorable information to sell.
