Pashmina has become a fashion buzzword thanks to Hollywood celebrities like Oprah ( she did a show on how to wear one). The pashmina wrap is now regarded as an essential component of the modern woman’s wardrobe.
So what is pashmina? Pashmina is just cashmere…there’s no difference. Pashmina is simply the Indian word for cashmere.
When searching ebay there could be up to 7000 auctions for a pashmina shawl at a time. So how do you know which one to buy and what to look for.
If you are buying a pashmina shawl, chances are you are looking for some warmth. A pashmina shawl that is 1 ply will be paper thin and you will be able to see through it. A 2 ply or even the best is a 4 ply, will keep you warm and will be thick and cozy.
Is it a blend? Many pashminas have a blend of silk, this will add to the luxurious feel. A blend of 90% pashmina and 10% silk will add just the right softness, however I would be careful if the shawl has more than 20 % silk.
Look closely at the picture, if you cant see it clearly, ask for another. I like a close up photo of what I am buying.
Should you own more than one? Yes! They can be worn with a dress on a cool summer night, with a jacket in the winter, or as a scarf with your winter coat.
How do I know so much? I am an ex buyer and I am now a manufacturer.
