A catalytic converter rarely fails on its own.  A problem is occurring somewhere in the emission system.   It is important to determine what caused the converter to fail so the problem can be fixed and prevent a recurrence of the failure.  Some of the problems to look for are: Out of tune engines, excess fuel entering exhaust, oil or ante freeze entering exhaust, deteriorated spark plug or spark plug wires, oxygen sensor not functioning properly, road damage or broken hangers to name but a few.

There are two types of catalytic converters; universals and direct fits.   Keep in mind that not all catalytic converters are created equal.   The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has guidelines for catalytic converters but flow and converter construction are left up to the manufacturer.   Greyhound Performance has sold almost every brand of converter on the market in years past:   But for the last 10-12 years have exclusively sold the MagnaFlow (Car Sound) product because of their superior quality.   For example:  They use heavier gauge stainless, 1/2" lap welded joints where necks meet the body, necks that do not extend into the body of the converter (where it can hamper exhaust flow), separate dies for different inlets, and so on.   Simply put, they make the strongest and smoothest flowing converter on the market today.   All their cats are high flow.   When it comes to universal cats, one size does not fit all.   A cat used on a 4 cylinder import is different than the one used on a V8 SUV.   Please don't hesitate to call Greyhound Performance if you need application guidance.   MagnaFlow also has a new universal, spun body catalytic converter, with
no welds, that contains metallic substrate for optimum CFM flow and maximum durability.   It is rated for engines up to 6.2L and 6000 lbs test weight.   It is definitely the choice for modified engines.   Note:  If you are a California resident you must make sure the catalytic converter you purchase is CARB approved.

Greyhound Performance sells only MagnaFlow Catalytic Converters.
