If you are reading this, you probably have already been dabbling and doing some selling on ebay. If you've decided to step things up and become a Power Seller it's actually very simple. If you are new to ebay and have never sold a thing, this also applies to you. When I started on ebay I knew NOTHING about it. I started from scratch and had to do a lot of reading. I set up my account, paypal, etc. I struggled trying to figure out how to write a listing. My point is I knew nothing about this stuff. The good news is that it can be done.
I became a Power Seller in my first 3 months (by the way...it can't be done any faster). I am an average mom. I have 5 small children at home. I homeschool and I'm single. It's not like I had 15 hours a day to devote to this. If I can do it, so can you!
The first step you have probably already taken. That is to get your ebay account set up and to also set up a paypal account. Once you've done that you're good to go. There are a lot of different ways to get your listings up and it's completely a personal choice. You can create your listings through ebay or through an outside source such as Auctiva or SellersSourceBook (there are plenty of others too). Which ever method you choose, just spend some time learning how to enter pictures, etc. I like to use Auctiva because I can add as many pictures as I want without paying an additional fee. (Auctiva has some downsides too, so I'm not plugging them over the others).
The best advice I can give you is to be diligent. You have to consider this a business. List your items fairly. Describe your item properly and completely. Do your research on pricing. Do a search to find out what other items similar to yours are listed for, you can see if there are any bids on these items and you can find out where the seller started the bidding. Another crucial part of your homework would be to do an advanced search and find out how many items similar to yours sold and the price they sold for. You have to know what the competition is and what the buyer is willing to pay....if anything.
I started by simply selling things I had around the house. I think this is where the majority of people begin. You'll be surprised the number of things you will have listed in a short time. We all have unwanted treasures lying around the house.
Now that you have your items listed you need to keep listing more. You may draw in a buyer because they are looking for a particular item, but that buyer may just spot another item you have that they didn't even know they wanted :) You need to keep as much inventory going as you can. Giving the buyer choices is a great way to increase the overall sale and to increase return sales.
My last point is one that is sorely lacking today. CUSTOMER SERVICE! You have to give people good customer service. Buyers have options and they know it. They don't have to buy from you. You want them to have a great experience so they will return again. This means answer their questions promptly, accurately and professionally. Ship your items promptly in appropriate packaging. Let your buyer know that when they purchase from you they will be getting exactly what they expected, it will be shipped promptly and will arrive in good shape.
