How to Wear Capri Pants
For non-stop style from spring to fall, capri pants are a perfect pick! They're comfortable, they look good on most women, and they can be dressed up or down to fit almost any occasion. To get the best look for you, follow these simple rules:
1. Pick the right length
Capris should fall approximately to mid-calf. Avoid styles that hit just-below-the-knee, as they look more like clam-diggers.
2. Choose the best cut and pattern.
The most flattering capri pants should fit close to the body without being skin tight. Cut should be straight-legged or a slight flare (see above photo.) Avoid tapered capris, because these will make your hips look disproportionately big. Styles that are too wide may make you look like a sailor wearing high-waters. If you're looking to slim your hips, vertical stripes can work wonders. Stay away from big, bold prints unless you are really thin.
3. Wear the right shoes.
Capris look best with flats or small heels (like kitten heels). Slides or flip-flops are perfect for a weekend casual look. Avoid high heels.
4. Know how to dress them up.
While capris make easy casual wear, they are also appropriate for most office environments. (Check with your employer's dress code to be sure.) For a great career look, choose capris in a fabric like linen, stretch cotton, or silk. Then pair them with a sleek sweater set or simple shell. Avoid wearing a suit blazer, which can throw off the proportion of the capris. If you must wear a jacket, look for a capri suit, or choose a close-fitting jacket with three-quarter-length sleeves.
