When you think about ways to decorate your home...don't rule out using ordinary household items in innovative ways to produce a look that is both unique and original. This will give your home a great personal touch without costing a fortune.
The best part of this type of decorating is that all of these items can be found right here on Ebay....You do not have to waste time driving all over town or hunting for just the right item. In addition, while you are checking the auctions for certain items, you are sure to come across other items that will spark your imagination as well. Just remember to open your mind and think "outside the box" and soon, you will have the best decorated house on the block!
Consider the following items, and just think of all the ways they could be used...
- Concrete birdbath - Fill a birdbath with sand, seashells, etc. Top with a slightly larger glass top, and use as an end table. (Fill with different objects to match any decor)
- Individual Wooden Chair - Place the chair in the bathroom and stack with rolled bath towels. Makes a wonderful display, and also puts your bath towels within easy reach of your tub or shower.
- Old wooden window frame - Use glass etching cream to make designs on the glass panes, and hang the window on the wall. This could also be hung in front of a window for maximum visibility.
- Wooden porch pillars or fence posts - Cut the bottom and top of each post flat and smooth. Cut in various lengths from approximately 2' high to 4' high. Place a pillar candle on top of each post, and arrange posts in a pleasing design in front of your fireplace for a nice look.
- Three-tiered plate rack - Use clay flowerpot saucers instead of plates for each level of the plate rack. Fill one saucer with potpourri, and the other two saucers with various bath items such as soaps, bath beads, rolled washcloths, etc. This makes a great bathroom decor item.
- Cast Iron or Metal Floor Grates - Paint these in a color to match your decor. Scuff them slightly with sandpaper for a vintage look. Hang grates on your wall using a strong nail or wire. These look great when several are grouped together as well.
As you can see, none of these items take any special skill to put together or create, and each of them can easily be modified to match any decor or color scheme. Just let your imagination wander and you will see how truly wonderful your home can look!
