How Do you Submit your eBay Store to Search Engines?

This is an often asked question for eBay sellers! There are several top search engines to think about. This will gain more exposure for your store, since your store URL will be indexed among the best of the best...but it's your job to increase your page ranking once submitted. Now how do you submit your URL in the first place?

GOOGLE

To submit your store URL to google, you can access the submit page via our About ME page. Google also has a "Google Store Connector." By downloading this, all of your items will be available on Froogle/Google Products for free, as long as you set up a google account. Start your free account and download the store connector. This allows you to simply upload all of your items by connecting with eBay. Your items become searchable fairly quickly, and earn you extra sales!

YAHOO

To submit your URL to Yahoo, Visit our About ME Page. for the link. Yahoo is the #2 search engine, so make sure you submit to this one!

MSN

Submit your URL to MSN by also visiting our About ME page. You can submit to other search engines like Gigablast, Jayde and more as well.

BACKLINKS

Backlinks are pretty simple to explain. They're a link that directs to your site. These are different from reciprocal links, which is a strategy of "you link me, I'll link you." Backlinks are often more valuable to Google and affect your page rank much more. You should try to get as many backlinks to your eBay store or About ME page as possible.

Where can you get Backlinks?

You can try asking other eBay store owners to place a link on their page. Naturally, they will probably want one back. You can also request a link from blog owners, or ask them to blog about your site. This will create a backlink. Here are more places to get backlinks:

  •  Link directories can also produce links, though these do cost money usually.
  • Create more backlinks through MySpace and Facebook. When you create your page, be sure to add several well-placed links on your page, and make sure they are big enough to see!
  •  Try leaving comments on blogs relevant to your items. Comments pages usually include a URL link for you to leave.
  • Use Social Bookmarking tools like Delicious or Digg. Network with other users, leave comments, expand your network, and submit your own links. The larger and more relevant your network, combined with a good bookmark list, will result in traffic!
  • Use the eBay Blogs!
  • Participate in forums. Forums can drive serious traffic. Just be sure not to spam! It doesn't get you anywhere and it can get you banned.
  • Your About ME should create a backlink to your eBay store! Be sure to link everything all together. Place links on your custom pages, Guides, store home page and listings to everywhere you are on eBay.

EFFECTIVENESS

To find out how many buyers have been referred to your store through Google, Yahoo, MSN or any other site, log into your eBay account and check your traffic reports. You did sign up for the traffic reports, right? They're free and invaluable to find out where your marketing efforts can be improved, what's right, and what's wrong. Here you'll find a link at the top of the page to report the "referring domains." Click to generate a report with all of the sites that have driven traffic to your store.

MANAGE YOUR STORE

eBay offers an RSS feed for eBay store owners to activate so eBay users can use it. RSS stands for really simply syndication. In short, this will allow users to view your store more simply rather than manually typing in your URL. Activate it and you could potentially see more sales. It definitely can't hurt!

KEYWORDS

eBay stores have search keyword tags that can lead buyers to your store through the search engines. These tags are placed on your site, available for search engines to pick up, and drive traffic directly to your site...with the proper keywords! Find out what buyers are looking for by searching completed items on eBay of items that you sell. Notice trends in keywords, which words lead to a successful sale, and what buyers are not looking for. Adjust your keywords by clicking "Manage my Store" under "my eBay."  From there, look under "store design" and you'll find the "search engine keywords" link. This is sometimes pre-filled by eBay with some of your item titles. However, you can adjust it to have different keywords you think will attract buyers.

OTHER SITES

You can also submit your store to shopping comparison sites like Shopzilla, BizRate, Price Grabber, Shopping.com, and more. To find the leading shopping comparison sites, search "shopping comparison" and you'll find a good list. These will cost a fee, so make sure you do your research before you commit! These are often pay-per-click advertisements, so you're items have to be very targeted and easy to find. You can always take a trial and see how you do with it. If it doesn't work, you can always change the keywords or cancel. To access these programs, visit the homepage of the shopping comparison site. A tiny link at the bottom of the page will read something to the affect of "merchant advertising and accounts." Here you'll find the details on each site's advertising/pay-per-click programs.
