If it sounds to good to be true...It usually is!!
Let’s say someone wants to sell you a genuine Rolex for only $150! Does that sound too good to be true? Of course it does! Well they have a new venue now called the internet.. Ebay does its best to rid the sight of counterfeiters but can not possibly police each and every listing 24/7. Therefore there is the VeRO program (Verified Rights Owner). While they are able to police a large part of the counterfeit items it still doesn’t take care of every one of them. This is why Ebay goes one step beyond to ensure customer safety when buying on line with what is called a community watch board. This board is open to anyone who feels that a listing is in violation of counterfeiting or copyright infringements.
There are many ways to avoid getting caught up in counterfeit perchasing.
-Don’t buy unless you are given the manufacturers serial number.
-Don’t buy if a vendor does not promise a manufacturer’s serial number.
-Cross reference a vendor with the brand’s web site.
-Study..do your homework! Browse manufacturer’s catalogues, websites and your local jewelers to familiarize yourself with the type of bands/bracelet/clasps/hands/crystal etc. and warranty.
Whether you are purchasing a new or previously owned watch, make sure that it has all of the appropriate paperwork and if possible be sure it comes with a warranty from the Manufacturer.
Rolex is so avidly against counterfeiters its website has a lengthy guide to safeguard against fake Rolex watches.
Best Advice....When in doubt, don't.
