I re-read my earlier postings & I noticed  a few things that I left out so they are added in where they should be. :)

~~~I first must say...I am in no way affiliated with Coach...(i wish)
I just happen to LOVE their products..~~
My first encounter with a fake Coach bag was of course on ebay. I was new to Coach, & for that matter all designer bags. I did not even know what fakes were to be quite honest.
Here a few tips that I have learned on my own, of ways to spot
fake or replica Coach bags.
The following tips are just from my personal experience.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Coach handbags are made of the finest leather, suede & cloth available, you will never find an Authentic Coach bag with vinyl or man made trim.

Coach bags are never seconds...NEVER!

Coach Factory Stores do not carry 2nds. The FS carry bags designed for them special, discontinued colors, styles, & last seasons styles which come to different stores at different time, if you are lucky you can once in a while find an in season bag at the Factory. :)

The Coach Sleeper bag is a dark Brown soft bag with Coach stamped clearly in white, with red threading. NOT the thin ugly white bag with black writing you see sometimes smeared on the bag. Coach does have a white bag with RED writing for the small pieces & it is very neatly done, not like the fake sleepers at all.

A bit about alignment & linings of certain styles:(my knowledge is limited)

Notice the c's are not aligned, the plastic & the tag. This is a definite cheap looking very ugly fake. Sometimes you even see the G's they are sooo not authentic & NO they aren't for Guess either.

Coach Signature bags are usually adorned with matching or coordinating leather hangtags.

Coach Leather bags with metal, brass or nickel, sometimes they will also have color on the nickel ones.

Coach bags signature or leather NEVER have the tacky tan silky cc lining you see on so many bags here on ebay, & other auction sites. They are lined in a heavy silky fabric usually with large C's over it. Some styles have Coach on them but I am not sure which ones.

This is the TACKY lining that is never in an authentic bag. ALWAYS FAKE!

This is the lining of an authentic COACH Leather Duffle.

This is a sign of an authentic bag. Notice the small "BULLSEYE" in the upper right corner. That is showing that that bag has been put in a Factory Store, T J Maxx, or Marshalls.(I am sure it will be copied soon but as of now it is not in any fakes that I've seen.)

Coach Monogram is always aligned all around the bag in classic bags, such as the Coach duffle. They are not on the lunch totes, or some hobos.

These bags are usually lined in matching or coordinating heavy fabric lining.

Optics are not aligned perfectly, neither will be the scribbles or the scarf print. These bags are (in my experience) lined with the fabric lining.

Patchwork bags are the same on each side, the patches are always places in the same place on the front & back (sort of a mirror image, if you will) if you turn it around the back will be the same as the front....If you see a bag without patches on both sides it is fake. These are also lined in fabric usually matching any trim on the bag. Or just a matching fabric.

This is a fake patchwork bag. Again notice plastic wrapping, tag & some of the material is not even made by Coach.

Here is the Authentic Coach patchwork tote the above picture is supposed to be.

Coach tags are very unique..There are a limited number of styles that have the metal tags, it is usually on the leather bags but can be seen on limited edition styles.

This is a nice looking replica(if you can call it that) of the Coach Market tote, but the hang tag is wrong, the trim appears to be man made , the bag is an obvious fake, as the C's are not in alignment as they are in the picture below which is authentic.

This is an authentic Coach Market Tote, as the one above is trying to imitate.

Coach never has the long rectangular tags they are the small square tags that open & are perforated for easy tearing. Oftentimes the Factory Stores SA's tear or cut off the bottom of the price tag where the price is. I do not know why they do it, but when I purchased from them I ask them to leave on so I know what the bag originally cost & if I decide to re sale it then others will also know.

Never have I known of Coach to put plastic on the handles. I have ordered from Coach.com to many times to count & they are always wrapped in paper.

There is so much more that I cannot get it all in.

I suggest this.....

RESEARCH you can go into the Coach stores & look at styles & see examples of all that I have written about. If you want a particular bag, call Coach ask them what color the lining is, the tag it should have, if the hardware is brass or nickel, if it should be stamped anywhere. They will be most helpful..

But...be careful to not say you are shopping on ebay they seem to have a distaste for ebay & will tell you all the bags are fake no matter what, just say  a co-worker has one for sale & you want to be sure it's authentic.

In parting always remember even though the bag has a creed patch on the inside with a serial number. This DOES NOT prove it's authentic. Nor does them having real brown cloth sleeper bags & cards, those are easy to get. If a  person is very clever they will also have receipts,  you can buy them on other websites, even the templates to make your own, of course this is also a federal offense as is selling fakes. I don't know if owning one is but it is a crime of Fashion!

Also Coach bags are mainly made in China so they say that on the tag.
 A few lines were made in the US but it is older styles. I am not familiar with them.

I hope this has been helpful. I wish I had more knowledge to share.
My best advice is just to get to know Coach, the trained eye can really tell.

My husband even knows now when one is fake...
Inform yourself that is the only safe way to buy a used Coach. Don't let those fakes detour you from getting a fabulous used bag, sometimes they are the best. :)
