After Christmas I decided that I was to log on to the Abercrombie web site and get myself a nifty Wolf Jaw jacket, but they had already changed their items to their Sping line, and the faux fur lined Wolf Jaw jacket was sold out, not to found. I thought, hey, I bet a few folk on eBay may have received the wrong size coat for Christmas, and they might start popping up in auctions. I did a search on eBay for Abercrombie Wolf Jaw, and tons of coats came up. I noticed that even though the coats were being sold by many different sellers, they were pretty much all using the same photo... in fact, it's the copyrighted stock photo from the Abercrombie web site. Hmmmm? What's going on.
First off, it's against eBay's terms of service to use a copyrighted image from another site, so I was skeptical. My sister already had an actual Wolf Jaw coat in grey from the Abercrombie site, so I was jealous. I wanted a brown on in medium. However when I did find a seller (with 100% perfect feedback) the item arrived was not what I expected. You see, it was easy for me to compare any coat I received to my sisters authentic coat. The Wolf Jaw coat is a man's coat. The zipper pull tab should be in the wearer's right hand. The coat I received had a woman's zipper, with tab in the wearer's left. I immediately knew something was up.
The coat I received did not have quilted arms. It was a fake coat, which was pretty much a cotton hoodie with fake fur lining the back and hood. The sleeves were not super thick like the real Wolf Jaw coat we have here. Plus I ordered a Medium, and the size difference was incredible. When we put my coat on top of the real deal, there was 6 inches difference in width.
So this is my suggestion: Don't buy Abercrombie & Fitch clothing from any seller using those professional white background images that are simply right-clicked off the Abercrombie site. Also, if seller has a ton of same item, they are fakes. Look for the person that takes their own photos, so you can see what you are ordering. Usually they do a write up, like, received as gift, wore a few times, new without tags, is an auction I'd trust.
There is nothing worse than paying top dollar for a fake item. The fakes never have the quality that Abercrombie puts in. A & F have really thick fabric, super heavy duty zippers, all parts are lined. When I pay top dollar for real A & F, I feel that I get every penny's worth. When a seller claims 100% authenticity, and it's a fake, it's as simple as waiting 10 days at auction's close, and then filling out the Dispute Console for a complete refund. Don't ever think, ah, I should have known better and accept being taken advantage of. Use the eBay security features, and report the sellers that make shopping on eBay hard for us all. Together we can police eBay, and make it a place where someone can shop knowing they are getting what the auction promises. Liers and cheaters should be closed down, because it really hurts the eBay experience, image, and brand.
