Stickers are for retailers.. not for consumers!
Don’t you just hate to pick away at the stickers retailers put on merchandise like pottery, figurines, plastic storage bins, almost anything they sell? Hobby shops love to slap them on everything and customers hate them!
Ever come home from the local hardware or building supply to contend with removing those durable little bar code stickers they slap on everything from picture frames to plumbing supplies? They were not meant to come off easily. The strong adhesive is designed to prevent the bad guys and gals from sticker switching.
I can’t stand price and merchandising stickers and used to get frustrated trying to pick, peel, soak or burn them off! But now there are products to ease the job. Some work well on certain types of adhesive, and at least one works on all types of adhesive except water based glues.
After a little research I found a product that works on all but the water based adhesives, and it works very well. It’s already out there on the market, but can be hard to find. So I built an internet business out of selling this product.
But my story is a little different on why I needed this stuff
After selling our business on the east coast and moving to Colorado a few years back, I decided to sell our two-way radio equipment on eBay. Some of this stuff had adhesive backed Velcro® strips which we had used to secure the radio to our cars’ carpets. For the life of me, I could not get the Velcro strips off the radio cases to make them more presentable for sale.
I tried several products, each of which was good in it’s own way, but failed with Velcro. None of the citrus based adhesive removers such as Goof Off, Goo Begone, and 3M adhesive remover worked with this well cured Velcro.
After researching I located un-du™ adhesive remover. According to the manufacturer it works with all types of adhesives except water based adhesives. It is safe on all surfaces except unfinished leather and suede. It is also flammable which is why you may have difficulty finding it in stores.
The un-du product instantaneously neutralized the Velcro adhesive from our radios and the strips lifted off cleanly.
un-du can be used to remove adhesive tape and tape residue from such sensitive surfaces as photos and film. Use it on eyeglasses, windows, plastic items, painted surfaces, (every thing except unfinished leather and suede) to remove gum, tar, adhesives, wax, and crayon.
Another great benefit: The adhesive is simply neutralized for a few seconds. Once you have removed the adhesive backed item the un-du dries and the adhesive regains its ‘stickiness”. That means if you have a favorite decal or sticker that you want to simply remove and reuse this is the product for you! How about adjusting the pin stripes on your car or boat?
Speaking of boats, I had a fellow call the other day saying he made an emergency patch on his fiberglass boat using duct tape and wanted to know if un-du would help him clean up the mess left by the tape. The answer is yes!
Citrus based adhesives smell better than un-du. They also are limited in what types of adhesives they work well with. Un-du is a universal adhesive release agent. The un-du odor rapidly disappears as the product evaporates, and un-du does not leave an oily residue to clean up.
If you are into auto detailing, janitorial tasks, tree trimming, or any task that brings you or your equipment in contact with tar, gums, sap, crayon, wax, or any type of adhesive then you should look into this product. Check my "About Me" page for a source of un-du adhesive remover.
Other methods of removing labels, tape, stickers, etc.:
Try lifting a corner and very slowly pull straight up at a 90 degree angle. Go slow to allow the adhesive to “give up” it’s hold. This often works well with relatively newly placed labels. Be careful it doesn’t tear the paper it’s stuck too. The key is to pulI very slowly!
If the label is stubborn, try the above method while applying heat. This can be done with an iron at low heat or a hair dryer to warm the adhesive. Then lift as above.
Other methods of removing residue tape adhesive from hard surfaces:
After removing the tape, take the same tape and press down with moderate pressure on any residue adhesive, then lift up rapidly. This works best if you use the same type of tape that was there before. The two adhesives stick to each other, and for some unknown reason, the part that is still on the tape tends to pull the residue off rather than vice versa. And this only works on residue from tape that was just removed in the last few hours. Anything older and you may need use an adhesive remover solution.
Old wives tale debunked: Alcohol almost never removes tape or label adhesives effectively. It can be effective to help remove medical tape and theatrical adhesives.
