If you are looking for a quick-fix guide where all you have to do is sit back and watch the weight fall off, then this isn't for you. What I am about to tell you involves work and dedication on your part. Also, before you start ask yourself why do you want to lose weight. If its for someone else, it won't work. YOU have to want it for yourself, don't try to do it to make someone else happy, you'll just fail.
The first thing you need to do is get your diet under control. Forget the no carbs thing, forget starving yourself. I suggest a healthy eating plan of no more than 1500 calories a day that is also low in fat. Slim-fast is my favorite. Each of their shakes is 190 calories apiece. And drink plenty of water! I cannot stress how important lots of water is! Water keeps you hydrated, cuts down on headaches, and makes you feel 10 times better than pop. Pop is empty calories anyways, just leave it alone.
A sensible eating plan may look something like this:
Breakfast - Slim Fast (200 calories)
Morning Snack - Slim Fast bar of your choice (250 calories)
Lunch - Slim Fast (200 calories)
Afternoon Snack (250 calories)
Dinner - I am partial to the Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine frozen dinners, all tasty and around 300 calories apiece
Evening Snack (250 calories)
Right there is fulfilling 1450 calories per day. Now, if you get something besides a frozen dinner, I suggest cutting out the evening snack, because you'll more than likely eat those 250 calories during dinner. Because you snack all day, you're less likely to feel hungry and binge.
I also suggest for every 5lbs that you lose (or once a week), treating yourself to a "bad" food. If you deprive yourself of everything you like, you're less likely to stick to it. But if you allow yourself a treat, in moderation of course, every now and then, you won't feel deprived. My "treat" is a Dr Pepper every 3 lbs I lose (which equals out to once a week).
I also suggest sitting down and defining some realistic and clear goals. Do you want to lose 40lbs by this time next year? You CAN do it if you stick with it! A sensible weight loss is 1 lb per week. At that rate, its not too quickly and you're more likely to keep it off in the long run than if you lose too much too fast. Get something to help you keep track of how many calories you eat. I suggest Diet Power. Its a computer program that tracks your calories, physical activity, and weight loss. If you are interested in purchasing it, please contact me so I can set up an eBay auction for you. Its very easy to use and as long as you're honest with it, it WILL help! I also suggest getting a buddy. Slim Fast's website has a vast supply of buddies going through what you are. You can even search for buddies that are in the same level (beginner, novice, etc) as you and who have the same weight loss goals. The people there are great!
After you get your eating under control, you'll need to add some kind of physical activity to get your heart rate up and start burning fat. Without physical activity, you'll get virtually nowhere in your weight loss. Sure, you may lose a couple pounds, but eventually you'll get "stuck". I suggest investing in a diet pill to help get your metabolism up and help you burn more calories. One-A-Day's Weight Smart and TrimSpa are both excellent choices when taken as directed.
I suggest getting up early enough in the morning to do 30 minutes of kickboxing. It will get your heart rate going and you'll have energy all day long working out first thing in the morning. 30 minutes of kickboxing burns 328 calories! Billy Blanks has a ton of excellent DVD's to chose from, I highly recommend him! Next I encourage at least an hour of walking each day. After dinner take the family and go for a walk. 60 minutes of walking burns 168 calories and its easy and low-impact. Plus the rest of your family will benefit from it also! If you are lucky enough to have a stationary bicycle or can afford to buy one, use it in addition to the above. 30 minutes on that bike can burn 255 calories. You can do it while watching your favorite TV programs in the evening. With the above, you'll be burning 751 calories each day, that's half of what you're eating! And that's a good thing!
After you start getting closer to your goal weight, you'll need to firm up a few areas on your body. Figure out your "problem areas" and do a DVD search on eBay for them. You can find some great workout DVD's geared towards helping you firm those areas up! Replace the 30 minutes on the stationary bike with a 30 minute firm up workout and you'll be good to go!
Weight loss doesn't happen overnight. It takes a lot of time, patience, and dedication. You might think its hard, but the end result will be worth it! Remember baby steps. Babies just don't get up and take off running right away, they fall and stumble quite a few times before they get the hang of it. Just get back up, dust yourself off, cry and whine if you feel you need to, and get right back at it.
If you follow the above just as described and with your Dr's blessing, the weight will start to come off in no time and keep coming off!
Good luck with your weight loss! You CAN do it!
