Measuring your dog can be challenging, to say the least! Dogs come in so many shapes and sizes that fitting them can be difficult. To make matters worse, many of the manufacturers guide lines are confusing or inaccurate. I have tried to put together a more comprehensive guide here to both measuring and more detailed information on the clothing lines available at Brown Dog Treasures.

Neck Measurement- around the neck at the collar line.

Girth sometimes called chest measurement- Around your dog body, just behind the front legs at the widest part of the chest. B in the example below.

Length- this is measured from the base of the neck (just below the collar to the base of the tail as shown in the diagram below A.

When making a decision to purchase clothing you must also consider your dogs breed. For example, take the pug, although this dog is small and of short stature the neck and girth are broad. If this is the case with your dog, I would tend to chose a larger size if your dog is at the higher end of the size range.

Our Sporty K9 line of licensed MLB, NBA and College team apparel is sized generously as far as the jackets, and T-shirts are concerned. The caps and bandanas are another matter. The M/L cap will just fit a Lab or Golden. If you have larger breed such as a Newfoundland or St Bernard, these caps will not fit.

The same holds true for the bandana. The Sporty K9 bandana is a triangular shape, rather than the traditional square bandana. That is what I like most about it since it does not bunch up arond the dog's neck. The only problem is, the largest size (M/L) will just about fit my Lab, Guinness. He is a 75 lb dog with a VERY broad neck.

The NFL merchandise we carry is manufactured by a company called Hunter. These football jerseys are made of lightweight poly/mesh with v-neck styling. They slip over the dog's head quite easily. The one thing you must take into account when purchasing these is that they run small, not true to size. The size XL will not fit a very large or broad Lab. I would always size up when buying these jerseys.

We try to encourage all our customers to call our toll free number if they have any question about sizing.

If you receive an item from us and it doesn't fit, we will gladly exchange it for another size. We require that you leave the tags on the clothing and save all the original packaging. You can return it to our shipping address, which you can find at Brown Dog Treasures or on the shipping label. Make sure to include a copy of your packing slip along with a note stating the size you are exchanging for so that we may process your return as quickly as possible.

To help defray the high cost of postage and packing supplies we ask that you pay a $2.50 re-ship fee. You can do this by asking for a pay pal invoice or including a check or money order in the bag with your exchange. If you are returning a size that WE recomended you buy, no re-ship fee will be charged.
