Houndwear Custom Coat Sizing Instructions

Use a seamstress tape or peice of string to measure your dog - If you do not have one you can purchase it at a dollar store. A metal capenters tape or yardstick will not be accurate. (Note:: Triing to measure girth with a stiff, noisy carpenters tape or a "big stick" is next to impossible and also tends to totally freak out most dogs).

Please ensure your dog is standing up and straight when taking your sizes or they will not be accurate.

Please measure your dog SEVERAL TIMES. Often the second measurements are different because the dog was squirmy or not standing straight.

Greyhound's typically range in length from 24-30" with a girth the same or a few inches more than their length. (There are some exceptions to typical sizing). We want your custom order to fit properly so if your sizing does not sound typical we will contact you to verify.

We will need:

Length/Topline - Measure from the base of the neck (From the withers/between the shoulder blades at the base of neck ) to the base of the tail (to where the tailbone begins)
Girth - Measure around the Widest/Deepest part of the chest
Front (Optional) - Measure from the center of the front to just behind the front leg (Please include #5, the Weight & Build if you do not take this measurement)
Neck Size - Measure around the neck close to the body
Weight & Build - Is your dog petite, average or sturdy/large build?

Custom made jackets can take up-to 7-10 days to complete depending on my current workload

Houndwear is a one piece design with no seams along the back and tailored with ample material It wraps down to the deepest part of the chest and around the rump for complete coverage. The Coat fastens at the deepest part of the chest and will not interfere with male urination. The wrap-around design is especially helpful for hounds that lack significant thigh hair to conserve heat loss.

Houndwear coats fit breeds like the greyhound, saluki, whippet, sighthounds or dogs with a similar body style and downward tail carriage like the Doberman or pointer. Coats for other medium & large breeds are available by request.

Our bestselling jacket is our Hurricane/Blizzard Jacket. It offers your hound superior protection by the shell being made entirely from waterproof material. The outer jacket is constructed from a nylon shell, PVC or rubber coated on the underside. This waterproof material offers full protection from the cold, wind and water. The coats are fully lined with top quality, pill free fleece and sport an extra long, lined drawstring snood with a keyhole leash opening in the neckline for the dogs lead when the hood is extended. The snood cinches closed covering the neck and ears and "stays put" even with rigorous shaking. The snood can also be folded or gathered to form a turtleneck in less severe weather conditions.
