I know many people are dying to change their desktop wallpaper and do away with the splash screen of Windows. You can easily get tons of free wallpaper on the Internet, but only a handful provide quality wallpapers in widescreen format. What should you do? Buy? Nope. Instead of buying,here's a quick guide to help you to make your own widescreen wallpaper for free using public domain images.
Step 1 :
Open your browse to United States government website like the armed forces. Search around for their photo library and browse for an image that you would like to set as your desktop wallpaper. All the images on the sites are public domain and can be use by anyone. Once you download your image in high-resolution version, use a graphics software like Adobe Photoshop to open the picture.
Step 2:
Once you load the image, select the crop tool on the right hand side toolbar. Set the crop settings to a standard widescreen resolution like 1680 x 1050 and check that resolution your monitor supports this resolution. Drag the crop outline over the entire image and hit the enter key once you're happy with the selection. You're now done with the image creation.
Additional steps which you can do to enhance your image are like: level adjustments, saturation, sharpening and layering. Most images are put up without much processing work. You can dramatic enhance with Photoshoot tools.
After finisging with your adjustments, select 'Save For Web' from file and save your wallpaper. Keep a copy of the PSD file as well for future editing.
To change your current wallpaper, you can right click on the desktop and select you new background image. Then select select "Set As Desktop Background". Now you have a cool widescreen wallpaper on your monitor and many more can be created by following this simple process.
