First of all, the tear bears need to be made out of mulberry paper.  You can find inexpensive mulberry paper here on eBay or at your locally owned art supply store.

Please vote "yes" at the bottom of this guide!

But let's just focus on the fluffing!  Some people say you can use a toothbrush, but to me they are a little too flimsy, so I like to use these brushes that I bought at Home Depot for about $3.00 for a 3-piece set (see the photo of the 3 brushes below)!  They are very stiff and make the fibers on your tear bear pull up.  You can try brushing back and forth, circular motions, outward motions... just don't poke your finger!  If you accidentally rip a piece off, no worries because you can just use a sticky dot (don't use anything wet) to attach it back to your shapes...  a little fluffing and you can camoflauge it!  By the way, I only fluff when the pieces are dry!

Here's a quick list of what you can do:

  • Layer the pieces - Each layer that goes on top of one another should get slightly smaller.  This makes it look more 3D!
  • Brushes from Home Depot (you can print this picture and take it to Home Depot and ask them to help you find them!)
  • Eyebrow trimmers from Walgreens
  • Pet Brush or Any type of super stiff brush
  • Hat Pin - Gently scrape your tear bears edges to get them to fray out if you had to use scissors to cut some pieces out.

I'll try to update this as I get more ideas.  Try visiting my other guides! Get free tear bear templates!
