Natural Microdermabrasion Skin Cleanser Recipe!

Preface:

Natural microdermabrasion skin cleanser is easy to make and effectively exfoliates skin without harsh chemicals. The main ingredients are baking soda and natural soap. Use unscented natural soap, such as Pallas Athene Soap's Pure Soap, which is available in the Handmade Natural Soap store. Natural soap contains only saponified olive and vegetable oils. Cleansing bars, detergent bars, and facial bars often contain harsh chemicals, artificial colorants, and synthetic fragrances. Only use natural soap to make microdermabrasion skin cleanser!

Supplies Required:

  • 1 teaspoon grated Pure Soap
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
  • 3 teaspoons filtered or distilled water
  • method of grating soap (such as a cheese grater or potato peeler)
  • small mixing spoon
  • measuring spoon (teaspoon)
  • small bowl
  • lid for the bowl or plastic wrap to seal the bowl
  • essential oils of lavender and/or palmarosa are optional
  • extra virgin oilive oil is optional for dry skin

Step 1: Grate 1 Teaspoon of Soap.

To attain 1 teaspoon of grated soap, either use a cheese grater to grate the soap in the same manner used to grate cheese or use a potato peeler to peel shaved curls of soap from the edges of the bar. Measure 1 teaspoon of the grated soap by pressing the grated soap into the teaspoon until it is full and level, not heaping. Place the grated soap into a small bowl.

Step 2: Dissolve the Soap with 3 Teaspoons of Water.

Pour 3 teaspoons of water over the teaspoon of grated soap. Cover the bowl with a lid or with plastic wrap. Allow the soap to completely dissolve in the water for about an hour, until the combination becomes gelatinous. After an hour, check to make sure all of the soap has completely dissolved; if necessary, slowly stir with a spoon and re-cover the bowl until the soap has completely dissolved.

Step 3: Add the Remaining Ingredients.

Uncover the bowl and add 4 level teaspoons of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to the dissolved soap. Use a small mixing spoon to combine the ingredients. Note: The combination may seem too dry but do not add more water; after continuing to mix with a spoon for about 1 minute, the product will resemble the consistency of commercial microdermabrasion paste. Those who have dry skin may mix in 5 drops of cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil. The natural microdermabrasion skin cleanser may be used without fragrance; however, to lightly fragrance the natural cleanser, add 10 drops of natural essential oils. The recommended essential oils are either 10 drops of lavender or 10 drops of palmarosa. Mix in the essential oils and cover the bowl to prevent the essential oils from evaporating.

Directions for Use of Natural Microdermabrasion Skin Cleanser:

Dampen face with warm water and apply the natural microdermabrasion skin cleanser to facial skin. Use fingertips to massage the natural cleanser into the skin and avoid the eye area. (If cleanser gets into eyes, rinse eyes with plenty of water.) Continue to wash face with the natural microdermabrasion cleanser and then rinse face thoroughly. Pat face dry with a clean towel to reveal softer smoother skin. Beneficial results will increase with repeated use. Acne-prone or oily skin types may use this natural microdermabrasion skin cleanser as often as every other day, while sensitive skin types should limit use to once or twice per week. This recipe yields enough natural microdermabrasion skin cleanser for approximately two applications. The recipe ingredients may be doubled to yield a larger quantity of natural cleanser. Once made, the natural microdermabrasion skin cleanser should be stored in a sealed container and used within 3 weeks.
