New Years Fitness
Hi,
With New Years coming up, resolutions are ready to be set into high gear, for a couple weeks anyways.
Here are 10 tips to help keep you motivated in your weight loss/fitness endeavors.
1. Make a New Years bet with a fellow resolutioner. See who can lose the greatest % of weight over a certain period of time. Don't bet money, money comes and goes, bet something semi-embarrassing, like the loser having to clean the winners car once a month, or vacuum the winners stairs once a week for 6 months.
2. Post your workout schedule on your fridge, mirror, toilet bowl, nightstand, front door, and make it your background on your computer. With your workout plan in your face all the time it'll be impossible to skip workouts.
3. Treat yourself to an unhealthy meal and a gift once a month if you meet your fitness goals. Or if you have a special day i.e. Sunday is movie day, tell yourself that Movie Day will be cancelled if you miss a workout this week.
4. Create your own Weight Loss Club. Gather 10-15 Weight Loss buddies together and have everybody put in some cash, the amount doesn't really matter, it's just extra motivation. Set a 6-Month time limit and have everybody in the group battle it out to see who can lose the most weight in that time.
5. Set your goals in writing and make sure you sign it. Post your goals somewhere you will always see them. Think of it as a contract, if the contract is broken you could face legal charges.
6. Make sure your goals are realistic. Set Short-Term, Long-Term, and Future Goals. Short-term goals are anywhere from 1 week to 1 month. Long-term goals are anywhere from 2 months to 1 year. Future goals are things you look to accomplish in over a year.
Examples:
Date Dec 1, 2006
Short Term:
Workout everyday this week
Long Term:
Lose 10lbs by Feb 1, 2006
Future:
Lose 75lbs by Next Dec and decrease body fat by 20%
Remember; keep your goals attainable, especially in the beginning. As you progress, your goals can get more challenging.
7. Announce your goals to your family and close friends. Not only will they be there to motivate you, but they will also be there to support you if you miss a goal.
8. Join a Sports Team or create a Small Sports League with friends. Sports are the easiest way to get exercise, they're fun and you hardly feel like you're exercising.
9. Join a Gym/Build a Home Gym. Both cost money, and money can be one of the best motivators. If you spend it, chances are you'll use it.
10. Track your progress with a weight log and a workout log (for both cardio and strength training) Another good idea is to take a before picture, and then take continuous after pics every month. It'll really keep you going when you see your results.
