Shopping for clothing on eBay is like a 24 hour trip to the biggest mall in the world! However, it is lacking one thing--the dreaded dressing room mirror!! How does a buyer get the perfect fit without trying on the item? Here are some suggestions the new buyer, eyeing all the clothes like a kid in a candy store, can do to receive a good experience!
First, check out your own wardrobe. Find the items that get you the most compliments. Is it the fit, the color, the style, the fabric? Keep these things in mind when shopping, especially the fit.
Second, put your item/s on and check yourself in the best mirror you have. It is best to check a couple of your very favorite things, the ones you feel the most confident or pretty in! Note the features that flatter you the best, such as the cut, the neckline, the waistline or length--these are things you will want to know.
Third, lay your best fitting items out and use a tape measure. You don't need to measure yourself--most eBay sellers measure garments by laying them out flat and measuring tops and dresses under the armholes side to side across the chest, they measure the waist side to side, the hips at the largest part of the garment, and the length of a skirt or dress. For jeans and pants, they will also give the inseam (the length of the inside leg seam), the rise (the waistband to the inside leg seam) and sometimes the opening at the bottom of the leg for flared pants. Use your own clothing like a pattern to see what fits you the best.
Fourth, finding items you like is easy and fun! When you do see something you like, check out the seller to see if there is a lot of good feedback, and check to see if the garment will fit you. If there is not enough information, contact the seller and ask before purchasing, and check their listings for return policies. Many large volume sellers may not have the time to answer you--if you don't have a lot of money and time to spend on a transaction, especially if they have no refunds or exchanges, you may want to check out other sellers.
Finally, don't get caught up in brand name frenzy. Many people just have to own something by certain designers and bid items up high just to get it. That is all well and good--there are many great items on eBay! However, if the color, style, or fit just does not look good on you, it is not a bargain. Ultimately, you are wearing the clothes, they are not wearing you. A great item will enhance the gorgeous person you are, not overpower you!
