Introduction
Second Life, the site where one can live a virtual life in the persona of a self-created avatar, grows more popular by the day. People from all over the world use Second Life to learn, play and mingle. Unlike some sites, which you enter through a Web page, you need a special download to access the amazing virtual world of Second Life. Follow these steps to learn how.

Step One
Go to the Second Life Web site's home page (see the Resources section below).

Step Two
Click on the "Join Now" button or the "Join" link.

Step Three
Supply the information needed, including a fictitious name, your real email address and your birth date.

Step Four
Choose from the selection of avatars (an animated figure that you manipulate through the site). You can change the way it looks later.

Step Five
Complete the application. Choose either a free membership or a premium (paid) one.

Step Six

Step Seven
Choose Windows 2000, Mac or Linux and click the "Download" button next to the appropriate operating system. It may take some time to process the download.

Step Eight

Step Nine
Click on the icon to be sure that Second Life is working. You should see a page with the option to "Connect."

Step Ten

Overall Tips & Warnings

     You must be at least 13 years old to use Second Life. There are a number of activities just for teens, but teenagers may not access "mature" material until they reach 18. This is why the site operators ask for your birth date when you join.
