If you’ve bought or sold on Ebay, you’ve probably noticed the little “me” icon in red and blue colors that’s displayed beside an Ebay user’s name. When you click on this link, you’re taken to the Ebay user’s “About Me” page where you can learn something about the seller or his auction business or anything else the seller wants you to know.

Why is this important? Well, this can be one of the best marketing tools in yourauction marketing arsenal. Using the “About Me” page you can:

1. Let the auction Ebay know who you are and what you specialize in.

2. Promote your online auction business. (I would be low key about this since this isn’t a good place for a hard sell. Subtlety is the name of the game here.

3. Promote your offline business if it’s related to your online auction business. We have a physical bead store, so I include photos of it on my “About Me” page. It’s been successful in bringing traffic to ourphysical store.

4. Educate your potential customers. For example, if you sell oriental rugs, you could include a short article on how to care for them. This can enhance sales of your Ebay auctions by increasing your credibility.

5. Let people know you’re a real person. Ebayers are more likely to purchase from someone they’re familiar with. Help your potential buyer get to know you by revealing a little about yourself. Be humorous or outrageous if appropriate. Buyers will love you forit!

6. Use it to improve your search engine rankings. If possible, use relevant keywords scattered throughout your Ebay “About Me” page for purposes of ranking well with the search engines.

7. Build brand awareness by using it to display your business logo.

You can enter HTML code on your “About Me” page using Ebay’s HTML tags. Ebay will also allow you to display up to two photos free of charge using their Ebay picture services. You can even display some of the current auctions you have running as well as customer testimonials on this page. Once you have submitted the material for your “About Me” page, Ebay will send you the URL to the page so you can share it with others. When you share your URL, you are indirectly driving traffic to your auctions which will help you to generate more sales. Use it to your advantage!
You can see that it is important to fill out the “About Me” section of your auction listings. Surprisingly enough, I’ve found that a lot of people don’t make use of this valuable auction marketing tool. Don’t miss out on this easy opportunity to market your Ebay auctions!
