Jeannette Glass Company produced a Pattern Design called Holiday or Buttons and Bows. It was introduced in 1947 and was produced until the mid 1950's. It was made in Pink, Iridescent, Shell Pink and Crystal. Pink Dishes are the most collectible and the most widely available. Iridescent items are becoming more widely sought after and collected, but sadly only 4 items were made in the Iridescent. It is hard to find information on what was actually produced in Shell Pink or Crystal. Because of that lack of information, many collectors stay away from these colors.
This Pattern has never been reproduced, so remember that every piece will be from the 40s or 50s.
Holiday is a hard Dish Pattern to collect, because of the many variations the Jeannette Glass Company produced in this Line. One thing any Collector should be on the look out for is that all the points and edges on any piece are there and in good condition. Also, any Collector should know the variations of their pieces, so that they can continue to collect matching designs.
Pieces with Variations:
-
The Cup is the piece that has the most differences. There are basically 3 different Cups. One style of Cup has a Plain or Clear center bottom. The other 2 Cups have Rayed centers. They have 2 sizes: a base of 2 inches and a base of 2 1/2 inches.
-
The Saucer is the next piece with many differences. There is the Saucer that has a Plain center and matches the Cup with the same. There other 2 sizes of Saucers have Rayed centers. The Rayed center Saucers ONLY go with Rayed center Cups. The Saucer with a 2 1/8 cup ring and will only fit the Cup with the 2 inch Base. The Saucer with a 2 1/2 cup ring and will only fit the Cup with the 2 3/8 inch Base. It is important when buying Cups and Saucers separately you have the base and ring measurements.
-
The 10 ounce Flat Tumbler has 2 different designs. One Tumbler is flat to the surface of the table. The other Tumbler has a very slight foot and is tapered at the bottom.
-
The Sherbet also has 3 designs. One Sherbet has a Plain or Clear design on the Foot. The other 2 designs are Rayed on the Foot; one is a very slight Ray, while the other's design is a very distint Diamond Rayed Foot.
-
The Sherbet Plate has two distinctive designs. Both Designs have 2 3/4 inch Centers. One Plate has a Beaded effect in the Center. The other one has a Diamond effect in the Center. Be aware that sometimes a Plate being sold as a Saucer could actually be a Sherbet Plate. The best way to tell the difference is that a Saucer has a very pronounced raised lip in the Center. The Sherbet Plate has no raised lip and resembles a Bread and Butter Plate. Make sure you know what you are buying.
The Cups and Saucers are the only pieces that must have an exact matching piece. Otherwise all the other pieces of the Holiday Pattern can be mixed and match to your taste and Collection.
