This is a simple step by step guide of how to clean your own feather bed. Besides occasionally airing out your feather bed, you should clean it at least once a year.
Step 1: Read the care label; it will tell you if the bed can be washed or if it must be dry-cleaned.
Step 2: Check carefully for tears in the fabric; The process of washing could cause the feathers to "explode" out of the cover.
Step 3: Use a large capasity washer
Step 4: Wash it on the cold cycle and be sure to use liquid detergent.
Step 5: After it is washed, tumble dry on low or medium in a large-capasity dryer. Tip: Throw in a couple of tennis balls or a clean tennis shoe to help keep the down fluffy.
Step 6: Remove the bed from the dryer several times during the drying cycle and shake it out well and then return to the dryer; the drying part may take serveral hours
Step 7: Remove the bed from the dryer as soon as it is dry, but make sure that it is completely dry before you put it back on your bed, as wet feathers will rot.
Step 8: To keep a feather bed fresh between cleanings, hang it outside in the sunshine and air for a day.
Good Luck washing your feather bed!
