Help to choose the right Tent for you.

The first thing to consider is what you are realistically going to want the tent for.  Your requirements will fall into one of the following categories,

Pop-up or festival tents
These tents are for one or two evenings away at a time, specifically marketed towards festivals for their hassle free nature.  These tents can pop up in seconds, usually come with an easy to use carry bag and tend to be the lowest priced.  Purchasing a tent from this category couldn’t be any easier, simply select the sleeping capacity required and pick a colour!  Don’t forget your sleeping bags!

Expedition Tents
These tents are manufactured to a high specification using rip-stop Polyester with a high Hydrostatic Head rating, tend to have integral groundsheets, aluminium poles and generally will cost you a little more.  These tents are often very light making them ideal for backpacking or for Duke of Edinburgh candidates.

Small Weekend-Break Tents
These tents are generally made from 190T Polyester with fibreglass poles.  Expect to pay between £25 and £100 dependant upon the size and specification that you choose.  Obviously the more features that the tent has, the dearer it is going to be.  When selecting a tent read carefully through the listed features and ask yourself, do I really need that?

Family Tents
These tents are again primarily made of 190T Polyester with fibreglass poles.  When picking a family tent it is important to ensure that you and your clan have got the necessary space to move about in.  Our advice when picking a family tent is always to go for a berth that would accommodate 2 more than you need it to.  That additional sleeping space can always be used as storage giving more room in the living area.  Prices in this category range from under £100 to over £400 and the higher priced are usually higher specification and longer lasting.

Tents are available in a huge range of prices, so when choosing what you want to pay for your tent, consider how many times you expect to use it and over how many years.  If camping is a new venture for you it may be prudent to start off with a cheap purchase and look at buying something better in the future (provided that the outdoor life is for you!)  Or you have been camping for a while and your tent has worn out then maybe it is time to look at a more long living (and probably more expensive) model.
