- Buy a replacement air filter that exactly matches your vehicle's make and model. Click here to visit our catalog and find what you need.
- Make sure the car's engine is turned off. Open the hood and securely prop it up. Locate the air filter housing, which is usually a circular black plastic case with steel clamps on the side.
- Unfasten the clamps, using the screwdriver for leverage if they're tightly secured. If there's a nut on top of the air filter housing, remove it with a matching wrench. Make sure not to lose the nut!
- Once the top of the air filter housing is free, remove it and set it aside in a safe place.
- Depending on the vehicle, the air filter will either look like a flat cylinder or rectangle. In both cases it will look like lots of folded paper framed by rubber. Before removing the old filter, observe how it sits in the housing to make installing the replacement easier.
- Take out the replacement air filter from its packaging and carefully install it into the new housing. Make sure that the rubber frame (or gasket) inserts all the way, and that the air filter isn't installed upside down.
- Replace the air filter housing, make sure the clamps and the nut (if there's any) are secured. Having a hard time closing the housing? Double-check if the installation of the replacement air filter was correct.
- Congratulations! You've just replaced your auto's air filter, saving money and time in the process!
