Changing colors to create a pattern when you are weaving on a triloom (also spelled triangle loom and tri-loom) is easy, but it is hard to explain in written text. Changing colors and textures of yarns is important in creating beautiful shawls, afghans, blankets, jackets and ruanas.

It may help to remember that the process you are using to weave is "Continuous Loop" weaving, so you need to keep a continuous loop of yarn, even when changing colors. Basically, you tie the two colors together before you weave them in.

To change yarns when weaving with the continuous loop process, weave with your first color, then when you are ready to change, weave your loop and don't start another one. Bring your yarn down, several inches past the bottom of the loom and cut it off. I find it easiest to tie the new yarn to the old one with a loose over-hand knot at the point where the yarn will cross the bottom nail.

Now weave your hook through and pick up the yarn, weaving your continuous loop with the new yarn.

You can change yarns as often or rarely as you like, to create patterns that are uniquely your own.
