From storage to cleaning, tips on mantaining your collectibles and figurines.
As with any item of value, collectibles and figurines require proper care and attention to ensure the preservation of the original detail, color and craftsmanship. Whether you are just starting a collection or have been collection figurines and specialty items for years, these simple steps will help you and your loved ones enjoy your pieces for as long as possible.
Display Location: When choosing a place to display your figurines or collectibles, it is important to avoid direct sunlight. The sun's rays can be harmful to any item's color or detail. This also prevents your collectibles from being exposed to excessive heat, which can also damage or distort them.
Cleaning: To clean your figurines or collectibles, lightly dust with a feather duster or a small brush. Never submerge your figurines in water or cleaning solvent. Chemicals should not be used on figurines, as they may harm the item's paint or finish. Instead, use a damp cloth or rag dipped in plain water to remove dirt or dust that won't come off.
Ornaments: Even though more people are displaying their ornaments all year long, most collectos only take them out once a eyar. The best way to store your ornaments is in their original boes. If not, it's best to wrap your ornaments in an acid-free tissue paper, which is non-tarnishing, and will help protect your ornaments. Also boxes or containers with divided compartments or stackable trays help keep your ornaments from breaking.
Storage: If possible, avoid storing your collectibles in a basement or attic for long period of time, as these places can often vary in temperature and humidity. Figurines and collectibles are best stored in a warm, dry location. Also keep them away from direct sunlight and/or strong electric lighting.
Original boxes: Keeping the original boxes for your figurines or collectibles not only help you store and transport your items, but helps preserve its monetary value. Also, many boxes can folded flat, so as you add to your collection you won't have to worry about the space to keep all the original boxes.
Keeping Your Figurines Safe and Sound: Make sure that the item you decide to display your collectibles on or in is sturdy and well constructed. For heavy pieces, you can get reinforced glass for your glass shelves. If you live in an area prone to earthquakes you can consider products such as putty or wax to help secure your collectible pieces in place.
