Vintage nightgowns & peignoirs are fragile & must be treated with care. As with most vintage clothing they have been worn & therefore are aged with wear & of course time. Most vintage nightgowns are just that "VINTAGE" so do not expect the seams or lace to be of the same durability of nightgowns from today. With time treads & fabric do get brittle which is likely to cause damage when being stretched or pulled. Please make sure the peignoir/ nightgowns fit properly & are not over-stretched.
Storage: When storing gowns or peignoirs please remember that lycra, spandex, & elastic do have a memory. If you leave a nightgown/peignoir hanging to long the shoulder straps may stretch out. I recommend putting them in a drawers or storage bin & rotating their position every 2 months. In no way am I saying do not hang peignoirs but rotate them from a closet to drawer. Whether they are hanging or in drawers I also recommend either getting some cedar, moth balls to keep the moths away.
Cleaning: 1) Wash nightgowns & peignoir seperately from towels, jeans, & other clothing. 2) Use cold water on a gentle cycle to reduce fading. 4) Add a gentle detergent to water before adding clothing. I personally use SA8 Delicate but you can use woolite or something similar. I use SA8 because it is bio-degradable and does not leave any residue. If you would like to purchase SA8 please see my ME page click on Order My Gift at the bottom of the page, then enter SA8 in search box. 5) I HIGHLY recommend using a garment bag to wash the gowns but this is just an added precaution. 6) Hang dry the nightgowns/peignoirs. I use a wooden rack which I purchased at Linens N Things but I am sure a hanger would work just as well.
