I used to have a real aversion to buying used clothing. The very idea of snuggling close to something a stranger had worn was more than I could even think about. However, I've seen "the light," and I'd like to share my newly-found convictions with you.
Before I attempt to convince you that u-s-e-d clothing is indeed acceptable, first I need to introduce myself. Hello, I'm The Biggest Clothing Snob on the Planet. It's not that I must have a designer label, or that I must pay $500 for a handbag. It is a must that my appearance be stylish, neat, and well put-together. (After all, I do travel 404.6 miles round-trip every four weeks to have my hair cut.) I absolutely relish in looking good! It's just not an option to look--er, otherwise.
So, now that I've introduced myself, it's time I share why I've found it to be okay to purchase "pre-owned" clothing. Look at yourself!! What are you currently wearing (assuming you're wearing something)? Why, of course, you're wearing u-s-e-d clothing!! Think about it. The shirt you're wearing became u-s-e-d the moment you slipped it on. The handbag you carry became u-s-e-d the moment you placed a lipstick in it. (I won't speak about shoes. A girl has to draw the line somewhere... Only new will do. Period. No exceptions.)
Point number two. Since we've established that you, too, wear u-s-e-d clothing, let's now talk about how much you paid for that shirt we just discussed. A quick peak reveals Coldwater Creek's "travel knit V-neck tunic" to sell for $45. Chico's "Antik Ailina Tee" sells for $84. T-shirts, mind you!
The only way I see it is I can buy maybe two or three n-e-w shirts this season (and not break the bank), or I can shop eBay and buy six u-s-e-d shirts for the price of one or two. 'Okay,' you say, but what about the fact that they're u-s-e-d?
The answer is simple. Buy from sellers with highly rated feedback. Buy from sellers who offer a refund if you're not satisfied. (Don't forget to leave feedback regarding your transaction.) Wash or dry clean the clothes before you wear them. Alter what doesn't fit. It's not rocket science! In fact, it's a really good use of your hard-earned money.
