Are you looking to build your own Fender Strat or Tele? Then BEWARE! It becomes an addiction! The simplicity and cost effective aspects of it will have you building in no time and OFTEN! You may be worried your first time and that is understandable. Looking over all of the options, parts, bits and pieces can be quite intimidating at first, but once you break it down, it is quite simple. That is what we are going to do here.
INTRODUCTION:
The best part about building your own custom Strat or Tele is that nobody knows what YOU like better than YOU do! paying several thousands of dollars for a high end Custom Shop piece is silly when you consider that you are buying the particular tastes of whatever master builder your instrument is crafted by. Not that it is always bad, but it is never PERFECT. Perfect in that it is never exactly dialed in to YOUR specific tastes. You end up buying this $3000 Custom Shop guitar and either A: end up putting several hundred more dollars into making it EXACTLY what you want or:B. end up selling it on eBay for half its value to buy another custom shop piece that again is not quite right. See the cycle you can get into here? We have seen it a thousand times and YOU have too! Why are there thousands of strats on eBay at any given time? Sure some people say "Selling because I need the cash" or "She's perfect but I have to let her go!" that is all BS, for lack of a better word. Take it from someone who knows, ONCE YOU FIND "THE ONE" you never let it go. Not if you are a serious musician anyway.
So why not build "THE ONE" instead of spending your life looking for it? You can build a custom guitar for as little as a few hundred bucks and you can hand select and fit each component to your exacting specs! Sure we have many needs as working musicians, so build TWO or THREE or whatever you need to cover your spectrum. It is all so simple.
The first step is to play as many Strats or Teles as you can while planning this project. Make little notes to yourself about the PROS and CONS of each model you play. For example, the frets are perfect on this one or I love the tone of that one, but go much deeper than that and be very specific about what makes you happy about each aspect.
We will be posting a series of these guides to help you through each step of the component guitar building process. If you have any questions about any of them feel free to contact us through our eBay auctions or eBay store. We love to assist customers in this process. It is what we do and it is the least you can expect from any seller who wants to earn your business.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE GUIDES COMING SOON!
This one is only an introduction. We are going to get very specific about each step in future postings!
Thanks,
