This guide is meant to help those who are novices at applying strip eyelashes and experienced eyelash wearers. Would you like to know how to apply false eyelashes or could your application method use some fine tuning? Then take a look at this guide to get some instruction and pointers. True novices should not wait until they are ready to go out to try this. Do it when you have some spare time.
It is a good idea to apply your makeup before you apply your eyelashes. This includes your eyeliner which you can use as a guide to place your eyelashes on when applying them. You are ready to assemble your tools once you have chosen the eyelashes you want (sounds like another guide) and the appropriate adhesive (one that is latex based). The only tools you will need are a mirror, preferably the two sided magnified type, a tweezers, possibly an orange stick, and small scissors to trim the eyelashes. To start, assemble everything close at hand. This assembly includes the eyelashes, adhesive, tweezers, orange stick, mirror, and scissors. Now, let's apply eyelashes like a pro:
1. REMOVE the lash strip from the tray by pressing the lash with your thumb against the tray in a downward sweeping motion until it comes away from the tray, never pick at the band, you will loosen the hair strands and it will lose its shape.
2. TO MEASURE, pick up the lash strip at the center using tweezers and place it on top of your own lashes. Align the lash strip to your lash line, starting at the inner corner. When you align them you can see if the false lashes are too long. You can cut them down to size by counting the "clusters" of lashes that extend too far. Take the false lash off then trim the excess lashes off when you've moved it away from your eye.
3. APPLY a thin strip of adhesive to the band, you don't need alot. One way to do it is to gently squeeze the tube in one hand while slowly gliding the lash with your other hand across the bead of glue at the tip of the tube. You can also try squeezing a drop of glue onto the tray and use either the tip of a makeup brush or an orangewood stick to apply the adhesive to the band, adding a tiny bit extra glue to both ends of the eyelash band. Both methods work just fine. Then, give the adhesive about 30 seconds to set, when you see that it starts to turn clear or is tacky to the touch. While the adhesive is drying try slightly bending the band with the ends pointing toward each other, dont let them touch. This is done so that the adhesive will start to dry in a shape more like the contour of your eye and fit more easily.
4. PICK UP the lash strip directly in the center using the tweezers. Aligning the tweezers with the center of your eye will guarantee you get the placement right the very first time. Set the strip on top of your eyelid, near the lash line-where the eyeliner is, in the center of your eye. Using the tip of your tweezers, orange stick, or your finger tips gently push down across the band to secure it, then hold down for about a second. Do the same with the other eye and you're done. The glue dries completely within a minute or so. It may feel heavy at first, but within minutes, you'll forget you're wearing them. No curling, no smudging, no clumps, just great looking lashes.
Some suggest that you add mascara to the false eyelashes once they are applied. Some say not to do this because the false eyelashes are dramatic enough. When you apply mascara to the lashes it blends your natural lashes and the false lashes for a seamless profile. The only drawback is that you will have to carefully clean the mascara off once you remove the false eyelashes, if you plan to wear them again. This may or may not pose a problem for you. Individuals that do not add mascara to the false eyelashes usually curl their natural lashes and add mascara before applying the false lashes. They usually get the same result and they don't have to clean alot of mascara off the false eyelashes should they choose to save them for future use. No matter what you do you should make sure your natural eyelashes blend in with the false eyelashes.
The choice is yours, spend some time experimenting and come up with your own routine. The payoff is anything between sweetly demure and wonderfully extravagant and dramatic eyelashes, a great accessory.
