Luscious Lashes

Mascara is much more subtle than colorful eye shadow or stunning lipstick. However, when done properly, it can have a greater effect on adding to the positive, dramatic impression you may be trying to achieve. In a recent study done by Cover Girl, it was discovered that women wear mascara more than foundation, powder or nail polish. With such an important accentuate to our face, it is even more critical we get the best results for this attention-grabbing accessory.

Curl those lovely ladies.
Curling your lashes not only makes them look longer and your eyes wider, but it also keeps them from becoming too brittle and breaking. Curling lashes should be done before any other stage of the make-up process as it may smear eyeliner or eye shadow. Always make sure the rubber part is attached to the curler, or discard if it isn’t.

Hold the curler as close to the base of the lashes as you can possibly get. If you feel the curler pinching, you’re too close. Squeeze gently for a few seconds and then release. Move the curler to the middle of your eyelashes, squeeze and release. Continue this process for the tip of the lashes as well. Squeezing in one place makes lashes look misshapen and uneven.

Apply the paint.

Remove the brush from the tube, and eliminate any excess product from the brush by wiping it off with a tissue. One coat should be enough to give you the perfect day look. When adding any other layers, wait a few seconds for the previous layers to dry.

For those with darker lashes, put your brush horizontally on the base of your lashes and move upward, past the end of the lash, giving it more length.

For those with eyelashes that are a lighter shade, position your brush vertically and move it left to right. To finish, position the brush horizontal and move from base to tip to ensure the mascara is disturbed evenly.

When considering whether to put mascara on your lower lashes, remember that if you have small eyes it is best to avoid this step in the process. Otherwise, lightly brush the mascara onto your lower eyelashes.

It does not hurt to have a mascara comb in your make-up supply. This will not only rid clumps but also separate lashes when the brush is moved from roots to tip.

Helpful Insights.
The right curler should match your eyes. Revlon makes curlers that are more rounded and used especially well for reaching eyelashes on deep-set eyes.

Blue or green eyes can benefit from blue and green mascara. By applying the corresponding color from the roots to the middle of your lashes, you can create a reflective mirage with the mascara and eye color.

Don’t ever pump the brush in order to get more product. This pushes air bubbles into the tube and dries out your mascara quicker. It’s best to replace your mascara when it becomes clumpy, usually after about 3 months.
