There are quite a few people who don't know that you can play Nintendo GameCube game disks on your Nintendo Wii home video game console.  Well you can and they play perfectly.  There is no lag time with the controller, graphics are great.  100% compatibility for the entire GameCube game library.

Items you will need, (in addition to a Nintendo Wii):

a GameCube compatible controller, (not a Wii "Classic" controller)
a GameCube game disk
OPTIONAL is a GameCube memory card to save games

There are many GREAT GameCube game titles available, many were exclusive to the GameCube, but why buy one?

GameCube games cost much less than Wii games.
There is basically no graphical difference between a GameCube game and a Wii game.
Hugh selection of new and used GameCube games available through ebay, HALF.com and Amazon.
The GameCube was no slouch, FANTASTIC games were produced or ported to the GameCube.

Okay, maybe, but what are some good games?

I've never owned a GameCube but I now have several GameCube games that we play on our Wii and have researched many more to add to my collection.  Your tastes may differ but there is not a bad game listed on this page.  Everything is good, many are great!
Here's a starter list:
Sonic Riders
Spyro: A Hero's Tail
F-Zero GX
Beyond Good & Evil
Metroid Prime
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Mario Party 7
Super Mario Sunshine
Pikman 2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
SSX 3
The kids also really really love:
Scooby-Doo! Unmasked
Chibi Robo
Billy Hatcher And The Giant Egg
Hot Wheels: World Race
Need For Speed: Underground
Barnyard
Other Mentions:
Ikaruga
Animal Crossing
Harvest Moon
Super Monkey Ball 2
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Skies Of Arcadia: Legends (better on a Dreamcast but still great here!)
Released on GameCube and on the Wii:
Resident Evil 4
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Note that BOTH of these games get better user reviews for the GameCube version than they do for the Wii version.  This is due to one main reason which is control.  The GameCube version has much better control and feel using a GameCube controller.  The Wii version is "loose" and more forgiving than it should be at some parts while less acurate at other parts.  To sum this point up I'll just say that a gamer feels more in control using a GameCube controller than they do using a Wii-mote.

About controllers:

Original Nintendo GameCube controllers are the best to get.  They hold up great. (Cost $15 to $25 each).
GameCube compatible controllers are usually much cheaper to purchase but you get what you pay for, they don't hold up as long. (cost $9 to $15)
Wireless controllers go through batteries, (or need a recharge), much too quickly.

Summary:

The GameCube system lasted six years and sold over 21 million units!  Many games, of all types, were perfected for this system.  The cost of buying GameCube games can generally be $10 to $20 which is much less that the $20 to $50 that a Wii game sells for.  The graphics are basically the same.  Many of the top games are the same for style and gameplay, (although controlling the game has changed dramatically).  Don't turn your back on six years of the best that game developers could do.  Look into getting up to four GameCube controllers and checking out a few games that might interest you, or your kids.
