There are a lot of things to take into consideration when deciding to start a karaoke show. Because  it would probably take about 1/2 of Ebays bandwidth and about 2 or 3 days to list them all in this guide, I will try to hit on some of the most important ones. We have been doing karaoke shows for 16 years and the most important thing to look into is, if there is a market for it in your area. If you live in a small town, rural area and there are a lot of shows booking around you, or a big city and every corner bar and club has karaoke, then it isn't a good idea. On the other hand, if you know that there is a need for shows and kj's then definately go for it.

The next thing is to decide how big or small you want to start off . In other words, how much do you have to spend on getting set up. Systems complete with discs can cost anywhere from 2000.00 to many thousands of dollars. under 2000 and you might as well just forget it, because with players, speakers, mics, amps, and the rest of the equipment needed these days to sound even 1/2 professional,  not to mention the discs (which are the most expensive items) you just can't get it for that. We have set up a number of outfits over the years, and the very smallest of them was around 4000.00 and they started out with a decent system and their song books had 2300 songs. Our present system cost me a little over 13,000 and that isn't including 18,000 plus songs with no duplicates by the same artist listed. Of course we use a lot of stage and effect lights and the best cordless mics and 75 percent of our song list is scdg, but keep in mind, we are karaoke dealers and we buy wholesale.

Now that you have figured how big or small you want to go, you need to contact a few of the clubs in the area and see if they would be interested in having karaoke. The best way is still in person, and let them know when you can start and how much you will charge for your show, how long in hours and if they show an interest, tell them you will contact them when you are ready to go. You can usually find out the going rates in the area by calling a few kj/dj's and asking them what they get to do a show. Some will tell you, some won't.

The next thing is to contact a reputable dealer, who will help you put together the system YOU want to start with, and will give good customer service after the sale. There will be a lot of questions to be answered and a little time spent explaining  how to get it all together so you are ready to go in the time frame you hope for.
