Q.  How do I calculate the proper size Heating Air Conditioning System HVAC units for my needs?
A. There are 3 methods that can be used to help you determine the proper sized equipment you need to purchase.  The first two are the easiest as you can do them in a matter of moments. The last method, being the most accurate, is the most time consuming.
Method 1- Compare to existing system
Method 2- Use the Map and Charts
Method 3- Do a residential load calculation

There is a Character Limit so this will only be for method 2- see other guides for method 1 and 3.

Method 2:  Using the charts below is not an exact scientific method for proper sizing but it will help you determine approximate system size requirements based on your square footage (sf) or (sq ft) and climate zone.   Use it as a reference along with one of the other methods to make sure you are in the right range based on your environment.

Q. How do I calculate square footage of my area?
A. Square footage is the total of your home floor space or length x width of each room all added together.

Example-  Bedroom is 12ft North wall x 12ft East Wall = 144 total Square feet.

Below in our store FAQ are 2 links, one is to help you determine how to calculate square footage; the second is an actual online calculator where you can enter you measurements of your home/business to come up with an actual square footage rating.

Look at the map in our Store FAQ link belwo and determine by your location the color of your zone.  Use this to refer to the charts  to assist you in determining the right size system for your needs.

Cooling Chart (located in FAQ Link below):  When your zone is determined, look down the color zone chart to the approximate square footage of your area to be cooled.  To the left in gray will be the tonnage required.  This tonnage rating is how manufacturers rate their equipment.

Heating Chart (located in FAQ link below): By using the chart below, if your home is newer, well insulated and not drafty use the lower number, if it is older, poorly insulated and drafty use the higher number.  Remember drafts can be fixed by using simple materials drastically reducing your usage costs.
