When you hear "Peacoat", you automatically picture a blue, hip length ,double-breasted coat made of coarse wool. Pea coats were originally worn by sailors and fisherman. The name "pea" comes from a Dutch word "pij" which means a rough, woolen material so pea coat is a jacket made of "pij".

These sturdy jackets have been standard naval issue since the 1700s and are still worn by sailors in many countries including U.S. Navy personnel. These pea coats have become so popular that many designers have copied the design and included their version into their fashion line in many colors such as J Lo's pink version of the pea coat  as well as a khaki version from Bottega Veneta.

For the authentic durable jacket, a Sterlingwear Pea coat is a terrific coat to buy as  this manufacturer makes these coats for the U.S. Navy. The
AUTHENTIC STERLINGWEAR PEACOATis the jacket closest to the standard Navy issued ones. It is a double-breasted overcoat with the traditional anchor buttons, vented back, slash pockets, cash pocket, and inside breast pocket. This model is made of 24 ounce Melton wool - fully fleece-lined. Peacoats are extremely fitted so buying a size or 2  larger than your regular size is recommended.

Another option is the CLASSIC PEACOAT which is warmer. It is a 32 ounce Melton wool shell - double-breasted and fully quilt lined.

Why buy anything but an "authentic" peacoat? You have the genuine item that does not go out of style and it can be worn casually or over a suit. Women's versions are also available. UncleSamsDEALS has found that these coats are a staple among people of all ages.
