When you first set out to buy a paintball grenade, you most likely have realized that there must be some advantage to having one otherwise why would anyone use them. Well, you are right. When a paintball grenade is used at the right time at the right place the effects can out perform the fastest shooting guns on the market.
You can tell when it is time to use a paintball grenade through several different thought processes. The first one is: Have I been gunfighting with this person for more then one minute with nobody changing postions or getting shot out? If so can I possible break the stalemate by moving up myself or having a teammate flank safely? If you answer yes and then no, it is time to use a grenade, get one out prep it and if you have a teammate have him use cover fire to give you the best possible throwing situation.
The second thought process is: Is there a large group of opponents near me? Is it possible to shoot them all without them getting a shot off? If you answer yes then no, its time to use a grenade. Carefully get into a good throwing position and aim for the middle of the group to get the best possible spray patterns on them. Make sure that even after throwing the grenade you are prepared to either throw a second one right away or start firing in case people were sparred from the blasts.
The third thought process is only for use in building or enclosed bunker type places (Close Quarters): If you are next to a wall or have a grenade shot through a door and there is someone really stuck in a building that just wont get hit, its time to use a grenade. Make sure you try to hit the center of the room or bunker to have the best chance at getting as many occupants as possible.
Now that you know when to use a paintball grenade, its time to learn how. A paintball grenade, especially extremely sensitive ones such as Liquid Shrapnel, are not to be thrown like a baseball or football. This can cause premature detonation. Throw them using a nice arced lob throw. This also helps put a nice bounce on them when they hit the ground giving the best possible spray patterns and distance. It is recommended to be in a standing position when throwing to get the best possible arc and distance out of the grenade, as well as increasing your accuracy. If you are trying to clear out a room with a grenade, make sure you know how hard you must throw to get them to detonate. You might have to try and hit an inside wall to generate enough force to set it off.
