It is best to use Shea Butter in its raw unrefined form, however there are things that you can do to make it creamier and easier to apply.
WARNING: You do not want to melt with high heat! This will destroy some of the healing properties and could cause graininess.
Since shea butter has a tendency to become grainy if it is not re-crystallized properly. the trick would be in the cool down method.
MY FAVORITE WAY is to place your butter in a measuring cup or a small bowl, then place that cup or bowl into a larger bowl of hot water. As the butter begins to melt, stir until completly melted. Remove the container from the water bath, but keep stirring until it has cooled down to prevent the crystal from re-forming (causing graininess).
NOTE: If your butter becomes grainy it is cosmetic only and will not hurt the properties. You can remelt and try again.
At this point you determine the thickness of your product. The more you stir it, the creamier it will be.It is ready to use now, so place it in your container.
If you are going to add your shea butter to a ready made product such as your favorite moisturizer, conditioner or body spray, add it while it is still liquid and stir down the final product until completely cool.
When making a product with shea butter as your base or main ingredient, start with the butter in the hot bath as above and add your oils to blend with at the melted stage. Whip or mix to the stage you want it then add your fragrance oil.Remember to use skin safe oil which is manufacturers grade.Whip it again you reach the final consistency of whipped cream.
BASIC WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER RECIPE
10 ounces shea butter
6 ounce fixed oils (this can be a combination of oils)
.5 to 1 ounce of fragrance oils start low then add to suit yourself, but do not use more than 1 ounce per pound!
Using the water bath above melt your hardest oil first
If you are using cocoa butter, start with that. Then add the shea, stir until melted and well mixed before adding your fixed oils and remember to stir during cool down before using the mixer.

Organic Shea Butter
I received this encouraging email when I needed it the most!
This isn't really a question about your item - it's a serious compliment. My family has imported essential oils for almost 400 years so I grew up in the business. I have worked with Shea Butter for many years, using it to make skin care products for people who have specific problems. Your information on using shea butter is the best I've read. It is helpful and easy to understand. Congratulations. It's wonderful to see someone passing along great information - especially in a free format. Thanks for helping give this business some much needed integrity. Pat Boudreau
Of course you can reprint. And I do understand how difficult it is to keep your standards high. Most people don't even begin to get it. However, the ones that do are so happy to find you and so appreciative of what you have it negates the others. My friends describe my customers as Pat's loyal junkies. It does seem accurate when they grab me in a movie theater to rave about their favorite fragrance or go into a store that's out of stock on one of the oils they love and they raise heck with the store owner. Then call me and tell me what they did. How long have you been doing this? Where do you do business? Perhaps I can send some leads your way. Pat
Now this is what it is all about folks!
This is why I will continue to sell only the best African
Shea Butter! For my integrity and yours!
Best Regards
