How to Take Good Pictures For Ebay

I am definitely not an expert when it comes to taking pictures, however, I have learned a few tips and tricks to pass on that you may find helpful. Here is some advice on how to get the most out of your pictures that you will be posting on Ebay.

  • Decent Camera: You don't have to spend a lot of money in order to take great pictures. Do a search on Ebay as there are tons of choices available. Make sure you get a decent brand though (Kodak, Canon, Fuji, etc).
  • Pixels: Bigger isn't necessarily better in this case. A 3.0 megapixel will be good enough. Ebay recommends a 2.0 but I would go for at least a 3.0 if you can afford it.
  • Read the Manual: One of the biggest mistakes that people make after they have purchased a new camera is not reading the manual. It is true, most cameras are "point and shoot" right out of the box. However, there are tons of tips in that little manual that will make your photo taking experience more enjoyable. Take advantage!
  • Photo Friendly Room: Pick an area of the house that is well lit. Preferably, make it a room that has plentiful natural light (ie: window). You want an area that is consistently light so you won't be hassled with shadows throughout the day. Also, have a background that effectively contrasts what you are taking a picture of. This will help your picture stand out more in your auction listing.
  • Frame the Picture: Make sure that your item is properly framed in your camera's viewfinder before taking the picture. In the end, a properly framed picture will save you tons of time. This way, you won't have to use photo editing software to touch up your pictures.
This guide is by no means exhaustive. However, it should be enough to get you going and hopefully help give you better results with your photo experience on Ebay. Good luck!
