The Dan Marino 1984 Topps #123 Rookie card is one of the most couterfeited cards in the hobby.  There are significant differences when in comes to a real Marino rookie and a fake. 

• The four corners of the black borders on a fake are too sharply pointed.
• A real Marino rookie weighs 1.90 grams and a fake weighs 1.93 grams.
• The stripes within the helmet of the dolphin logo (on the front-left of the card) are fuzzier than the usual.  Take another common Dolphins card from the 1984 Topps set and if the Marino is fake the stripes on that helmet will look much different than others from that set.
• Look at the number "1" on Marino's jersey on the front of the card.  On a fake, there is a notch out of the edge of the number in the center. 
• On the back of the card, the © logo is incomplete, and the "A" in "YEAR" and "8" in "1983" (in the statistics box) are both filled in.
• Remember, the best way to make sure that the Marino Rookie you plan to buy isn't a fake is to have it graded and/or certified by PSA, BGS, GAI or SGC.
