Rubber Stamp, Emboss, Age, Distress, or color your Brads and Eyelets or other metal-based embellishment to match your projects by following these simple steps:
To create a vintage aged look using metallic finish (gold, silver, pewter) eyelets and brads, simply sand the tops with fine grain sandpaper and then apply a coat of a dark-colored permanent ink using a cotton swab, small piece of paper towel or napkin, Q-Tip, etc. Brown-hued inks work really well. You can even 'dab' your metal piece directly on your ink pad....swirling, twisting, etc. will create different patterns. The secret is in letting piece thoroughly dry before handling. Experiment until you get the look you want; if you don't like your color or pattern, simply remove with fingernail polish.
If you have a heat embossing tool it is really quite fun to color and/or rubber stamp tiny images, letters, or numbers, on Brads. Do this by holding bottom of brad with a metal clip, pliers, or any heat-proof aid, heat top of brad for a few seconds to get it 'really' hot then quickly dip in embossing powder. The heat from the brad will instantly melt the powder. You can leave as-is or if you want rubber stamped image on head of brad.......immediately apply your inked stamp before embossing powder cools. Again, do not handle, until piece is completely dry. I would recommend using flat-top brads if stamping images.
