After amassing a collection of approximately 10 million sportscards and running a full-time sportscard business for the last 18 years, we have developed many techniques during our 11 years on ebay to move more cards with less work.
1. Maximize the power of focus > Either work on your vintage cards, your new rookies, or your unopened boxes. If you try to put a little effort into each area at the same time, your results will be diminished. Choose an area of inventory you want to work on, and stick with it through completion. If you are ADD like me, this can be a daunting task, but will prove beneficial in the long run.
2. Organize your inventory so that you can determine the depth you have of certain cards or products> For instance, if you have 20 rookie cards of the same superstar, all in mint condition, you'll only need to write up 1 auction! Either list them all through a fixed price listing, or launch one card per week for the next 20 weeks. This way you create one listing, but 20 auctions at the same time.
3. Shipping Costs > Charge a fair price for shipping. The quickest way to generate repeat business is to treat a customer fairly the first time. We even offer free shipping when a customer buys over $50 worth of singles.
4. Information > Use your listings not only to promote your auction item, but to better inform customers of the type of inventory you have to offer and the type of outstanding service you will provide to them. You can also build ebay store links within your listings to cross promote other items you are currently offering on ebay.
5. Timing of Auctions > It is far better to have your auctions close after 9pm est, as you'll have a much larger pool of bidders. Auctions that close between morning & afternoon typically see poorer results in terms of sell-through and final auction price.
