Canning Jar Candles
These canning jar candles are easy to make, make great gifts and are only limited by your imagination.
To start you'll need some old canning jars~either wide or regular mouth will work, ribbon, potpourri, votive candles, small glass votive holders and a hot glue gun.
You can find most of these things around the house or at yard sales, thrift stores, or Walmart.
Fill the canning jar with whatever you wish~potpourri being one of the easiest fillers. After the jar is filled, place a votive holder inside the mouth of the jar. You might need to do a little trial and error with the votive holder before you find that just right look. Different votive holders achieve different looks. Tie a bow with the ribbon around the neck of the jar. Add hot glue here and there so the ribbon stays put. Add votive candle to the holder. That's it!
You can embellish the ribbon with cinnamon sticks, dried fruits/flowers, sea shells/glass, the list is endless!
You can place anything you desire in the jar also....marbles, shells, mini Christmas ornaments, even pennies! Use your imagination!!
I've made themed canning jar candles~
Beach Theme
Layered sand, beach glass, blue dried flowers in the jar. Wrapped a small strip of burlap around the neck of the jar (simulating fish netting), glued tiny shells on the burlap. Finishing it with one larger shell in which I wrote "Ocean Bouquet".
Secret Ingredient
Layered cinnamon, flour, brown sugar, chocolate chips, etc. in the jar. Wrapped the neck of the jar with raffia and glued on whole spices and bay leaves~on one of the leaves I wrote "Secret Ingredient". I glued a metal heart charm on the front symbolizing LOVE as the secret ingredient.
Simple Treasures
Layered different colored crocheted lace & trim that my Grandmother had made in the jar. Wrapped another around the neck and embellished it with vintage buttons from my Grandmother & Mother. Added one larger button to which I wrote "Simple Treasures".
OK you've got plenty of ideas! Go have fun!
