This is a guide to help you successfully list and sell a purse on eBay.
So, you have a purse, clutch, evening bag, or other type of handbag and you'd like to sell it on eBay. This guide will give you a few do's and don'ts to help you sell your handbag easily and successfully. Hundreds of purses are listed each day, and many sell for the opening bid. This guide is to help you garner bids and get what your purse is worth!
DESCRIBING YOUR HANDBAG...
You've probably already figured out that you will need to describe the material that the purse is made out of, but you will also need to describe the material, if any, that lines the bag. Take great care to be accurate or it will bite you in the backside later. If there is a pocket, describe it as a zippered or open pocket. Describe any defects or mars INSIDE and OUTSIDE, paying close attention to the strap or handle as well. Inspect and describe the bottom of the bag too. Check inside the pockets and add that info as well.
SIZE MATTERS...
Once you have finished with the physical look of your purse, get out your trusty tape measure. In a separate paragraph, list the measurement of the purse side to side. If the purse tapers a great deal, if it is much wider at the bottom than it is at the top, be sure to include both measurements. Now, measure the purse from top to bottom. Always measure and include the words 'at the widest point' because this is specifically what buyers are looking for in both height and width. If the purse is leather, be sure to include a measurement for front to back, which is done by measuring the bottom at the widest point. If the purse has a pocket inside (and/or outside), be sure to list it's measurements too. Measure the strap in it's entirety and add that to the listing, noting that that is the full measurement. It is acceptable to divide that number in half and refer to it as the 'hang' of the purse. Which ever one you go with, make sure you make it clear which measurement you are using. When I sell a purse, I try to always use both. Remember that measurements are the second most important feature when selling a handbag, so give all the info that you can.
PHOTOS PHOTOS PHOTOS...
This is the most important part of selling your handbag because without photos, you've got nothing. Use your camera like you use your hands when buying your own purses. Photograph the outside, FRONT AND BACK, photograph the inside flap, photograph the inside of the purse, and the bottom of the purse. Make sure the strap is in at least one photograph. Photograph any labels or unique fasteners. These 6 photos will cost you $1 extra in listing fees, but that dollar also gives you a gallery photo, which is a MUST HAVE, and also includes supersizing. The best buck you can spend to make your sale a successful one. The photo that you use for the gallery should be either a close up of the body of the purse, or some unique, distinguishable feature like a unique lock, but includes most of the body of the bag.
PRICING YOUR BAG...
It doesn't matter what you are selling, always check the listings to see what others are listing their items for. Pay close attention to the ones that already have multiple bids. Check those listings to see what the first bid was. This will give you an idea of what an attractive price looks like as an opening bid. CAUTION: Never list any item for a price you can't live with, even if that's what others are selling theirs for. If the average opening bid for your style of purse is only .99 cents, but you aren't willing to take .99 (it could happen, there are no guarantees), start your bid out at the minimum you are willing to take. If your minimum is what the purses are actually selling for, it's probably better to get another item to list... lol...
POSTAGE...
Postage can make or break a sale. List the weight of the purse before packing so that the buyer knows how heavy the purse is. That will also tell them what the approximate shipping weight will be. It's okay to add on $2 or $3 for s/h to help cover expenses, but the lower your shipping, the better chance you have of your prospective bidders actually making that all important bid. Offer several kinds of shipping, putting the least expensive up first. You don't want Express Mail to be the amount they see before they even click on the listing!!!
Well, there you have it. You will of course add your own flair and styling to the listing, but the 5 points listed above are the makers and breakers of selling a purse. I hope this guide has been helpful and that you have a successful sale. If this guide has helped in any way, I'd appreciate your marking 'YES' down below where they ask for a YES or NO.
