I will chronicle my successes and failures to be a resource for those who are overwhelmed with trying to sell on Ebay.

1.  One thing I found to be true is "Good advice is no good unless you follow it."

Ebay has many free resources for sellers.  Don't just read them.  APPLY them.

2.  Buying pallets is risky business, especially if it is sight unseen.

Attempt to find a supplier that you have confidence in and build an ongoing relationship.  The relationship will encourage the supplier to advise you in pallet selection.  I purchased a pallet of domestics from a wholesaler in December.  I went to their location and was assisted by a great sales rep.  My resultant sales were very, very encouraging.

Several months later, I had two pallets delivered sight unseen.  I rented a storage space in anticipation.  I was angry when the pallets were delivered.

  1. They were cherry picked AND all of the junk was thrown on my pallets.
  2. I paid $300 each for the pallets and $175 for shipping.
  3. I didn't need the storage space because the pallets were not full so I wasted the storage rental fee of $45.
  4. Less than 40% of the items were saleable on Ebay.  Comforter sets had pieces missing.  After smelling one of the quilts I realized that a dog had done his business on it and the purchaser returned it.  Several neatly packaged comforters were ripped, torn, or melted from improper washing.  I ordered bedding and got a bunch of stuff that had nothing to do with bedding:  clothing, rugs with pulled threads, toys, single face clothes, etc.

3.  Some of your best buys can be purchased in onesies and twosies at month end sales, clearances, and discount department stores.

I hit the motherlode shopping clearance sales.  When the discount stores mark items down, the prices are better than purchasing pallets.  Purchases of deeply discounted sale items provide:

  1. New, sealed items ready to list on Ebay.
  2. Saves times from cleaning and re-packaging items
  3. Minimizes risk of getting bad product to almost zero
  4. Most stores have a great exchange policy

My sales doubled over the past three months compared to the past year and a half that I have owned an Ebay store.  I am working my way through the Ebay resources, researching, and doing a lot of shopping.

It is all paying off!  Find your niche and start shopping!!!
