Ever wish there were some way you could magically turn your child into one that reads for pleasure and not just when school demands it? Well, there is no magic, but there are a few things you can do to help.

For a long time, I was pretty upset that it took a school assignment to get my child to read. You see, at age 7 he could read as well as you and I. So, why didn't he? Answering THIS question was one of the first steps in getting him to read for his own pleasure.

If you see that your child is struggling, admit that. Then get them some additional help! You may not be the best one to provide it. Check on programs like "Hooked On Phonics" right here on Ebay!

These programs can make the learning FUN, which can lead to an enjoyment of reading.

Ok, that said, what else can you do?

Let your child see YOU reading at every opportunity! Children learn by example. I was an avid reader, but slacked off when I got my computer. Now I take the time to read every day. Even 15 minutes before bed can make the difference.
Keep Books of all types in the house! Build and USE a little library.

Get Library Cards! Kids love the excitement of a trip to the library. Make it an adventure and make sure they get their own card. Use the library as an special outing! Get a special drink in the Cafe most seem to have, stay for story hour, research silly topics together!

Let your child read according to their interest!!! When you read, don't you pick your own books? Let them! Here are some popular Ebay Searches for kid' books:
                   1.Goosebumps

                    2. Comic Books

                    3. Babysitter's Club

                    4. Harry Potter

                    5. Animal Books

Buy one book at a time, or if you know the subject is one your child loves buy in a lot !

Schools dictate so much of a child's reading, let him read HIS choices for pleasure, and you will see a much more enthusiastic reader. After all, even if it's just Calvin and Hobbes (my son's latest pleasure), aren't they still reading WORDS? And isn't that the point?
