You should keep your computer organized and defrag monthly. You will notice speedier file reads and

faster save time by doing so.  The quickest way to defragmenting a drive is like this;  Think of a new

library taking donations, they are getting books so quick that they just start throwing books into the

closest shelf to quickly get the work done, however when it comes to finding these books and working

with them it is slow. So I'm sure youve already guessed it, when you defragment a windows computer you

are telling the stupid computer to put all the books (files) into a order that is more logical...

Start windows in safe mode. This avoids complications from programs running in the background. It also

speeds up and streamlines the process.

Uninstall any programs you do not use or need.

In Windows, go to: START -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter

Make sure all programs are closed. They should be, since you started "safe mode"

Cancel any programs scheduled to run.

Delete any temporary files. (Start - Run - "cleanmgr")

Click on the "Defragment" button.

Wait...

Defrag overnight to avoid impatience.

The more often you run the defragmenter the quicker it will be.

Defragging takes the saved portions of all of your files and organizes them in the sections to help

your computer run more efficently. Keep in mind that some files (such as certain system files and boot

procedure files) just can't be moved.
Run in Safemode if Defrag keeps restarting.

An alternative is a program called diskeeper,It is very useful, since it can

defrag your comp when it is on screensaver. You can work (or play) on your computer when you're

defragmenting because it has a technology called I/O smart where if you computer is doing something

big, it will pause until your computer is done(you can set the priority for defragmenting so it won't

pause every time you do something little).
