Chrome covered sports cards can be some of the most valuable sports cards in your collection. Chrome covered cards can easily be smudged or scratched if you touch the surface of them. Having these scratches or smudges can lower the value of your cards or make it hard to get a high grade if you decide to send them in for grading. This guide was created to inform you on how to get rid of those unwanted surface marks on those chrome cards.
If you find fingerprints on any of your chrome cards you can use a brand new LCD monitor cleaning cloth that is non-abrasive and lightly wipe the card off. These kind of cloths are very close to a jeweler's cloth and are very good for cleaning sensitive surfaces. You could also use any micro-fiber eyeglass cloth. If you use any other type of cloth you could damage the card even further. Micro-fiber cloths can be found at almost any camera supply store. You also can use camera lens cleaner + micro-fiber cloth + a small amount of toothpaste (yes toothpaste). To get a closer look at those marks it would be a good idea to look at the card through a magnifying glass with at least a 10x magnifier. Whatever you do please do not use a kleenex to wipe the card off. Almost anything else other than a LCD monitor cleaning cloth or micro-fiber cloth will damage the card further. Do not use a kleenex!!! I would not put the toothpaste on your fingers and then directly rub it on the card. You could easily put another fingerprint on the card if you do it this way. If you use a fluorescent light you may also be able to see any marks a lot easier.
