This Guide Is To Give A General Overview On How Google Rates Web Pages When Writing Your Titles, Guides, Composing Your Item Descriptions And Using Keywords And Meta Tags.

If You Have An eBay Store Be Sure To Use Relevant Keywords In Your Heading. Write An About Me Page, Custom Pages And Also Write Guides As These Will Help In Boosting You Rankings In The Various Search Engines.

  • Your Store description (if using the classic view) can greatly improve
the outside search ability of your eBay store. Filling your store
description with what you feel will be the most important keywords of the
product that you sell will enable the outside search engines like Google
or Yahoo to find those keywords and bring your store into those
    searches.
  • PageRank:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using
its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value.
In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by
page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of
votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts
the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more
heavily and help to make other pages "important."
  • Text Analysis:
Google's search engine also analyzes page content. However, instead of
simply scanning for page-based text (which can be manipulated by site
publishers through meta-tags), Google's technology analyzes the full
content of a page and factors in fonts, subdivisions and the precise
location of each word. Google also analyzes the content of neighboring web
pages to ensure the results returned are the most relevant to a user's
    query.
  • Meta Tags:
Google ignores the meta keywords tag, which means the 'secondary
keywords' in the 'Search Engine Keywords' page.  The page title, however, and
the page's primary keywords are important.  This is not true of other
search engines so be sure to fill up your secondary keywords.

What this means for you is that although it’s a good idea to
customize your meta tags, the title of the page and the actual page content
(categories and store description) are much more important to Google.
  • Keyword Density:
Google also ranks a page based on the number of mentions a keyword has
in that page's content.  This doesn't mean you can dump a list of
keywords into a page and be good; the search engine is too smart for that.
If Google sees a bunch of keywords together in a meaningless sequence,
your page may be penalized.  A good page would have sentences that
    include the keywords that matter.
  • For example:  "Zach's eBay Store is a great place to find Star
Wars toys and Sony's Playstation Portable.  We have the Master Replicas
Force FX Lightsabers, Star Wars Legos, and great action figures,
    including General Grievous!"
  • Custom Pages:
If you want to optimize your store, you should build your custom pages
and About Me page, and be sure to fill it with good quality links back
to your eBay Store and its categories.  Custom pages and About Me pages
are indexed by Google and will count toward your PageRank.
